A legion of hellish monsters deemed the Wretched has arisen, and they wreak havoc on the now desolate, black world. What few survivors remain group together and keep the lights bright. The Wretched are weak to light, and it seems to be the only beacon of hope the humans have.
Kade Fields, an eccentric yet brilliant thinker, is one of the few survivors. Having locked himself in his home, he managed to survive. But food doesn't last forever. Soon Fields is forced to leave his one sanctuary, and comes face-to-face with a Wretched. Certain he was dead, Fields prepares for the worst kind of pain when a woman saves him. She calls herself Adelaide Sparrow, an intense misanthrope and violent army veteran. Seeing her as an opportunity to survive, Fields follows her, despite her protests.
In a last attempt to save mankind, Fields and Sparrow join forces to outwit and destroy the Wretched. However, Fields' world was dark even before the Wretched blackened it, and the added stress and fear may prove too much. After all, in a world of isolation, fear, pressure, and rejected love, there are no answers.
