After losing his mother to cancer at the age of twelve, Amir felt alone in the world. His best friend, Katie, had always been there for him, but her passing in a hit-and-run accident three years later had caused suicide to mingle into Amir's thoughts. The only bright side of Amir's life was his artistic ability and the dreams that fueled his artwork, the dreams starring a mysterious boy with inhuman powers.
Hockswell was an Imern, the government-made superhuman whose job was to guard and slaughter the Quarantined, the humans who are deemed not useful or harmful to society. By aiding in the escape of a few hundred Quarantined, Hockswell was on the government's execution list and running through the past. Other Imerns on the execution list, known as his guardians, aided him in his travels through the past. What the government didn’t know was that Hockswell was the key to cease their control.
When Amir and Hockswell’s worlds collided, Amir was lifted from his depression, but Hockswell’s plans to bring down his overbearing government were put on hold. In an attempt to save both Amir’s happiness and the future, Hockswell sends Amir to live in his futuristic world where people are unlovable and society has delusional beliefs.
