The ultimate betrayal is the betrayal of the heart. It all started when I was a child. I was only a child, an innocent little boy that never let dreams get out of my reach. Never. I always thought everything was possible. What foolishness I had. Hopes should never be allowed to get that high, because the higher they get, the harder they fall. And boy, did mine fall hard. My father was deployed to Vietnam. My mother stayed at home to care for me. That was typical, with everyone's fathers out at war. Then there was the sunflower field. The sunflower field was my place to get away from the pain, from the hurt. The sunflower field cradled me in its arms as I cried, and chuckled as I laughed and frolicked about and played all on my own. Then, that one, fateful day, I was suddenly blind. No one knew how or why I became blind. I just was. And life from then on out was hopeful. Too hopeful. And you want to hear out a fool like me? Here to tune in on my bitter tale? Very well then. But you have to promise that you'll listen. (**Disclaimer: All scenarios, situations, and characters in this story are completely and entirely fictional.)

Your technique is just wonderful.:) I'm interested now. The plot seems to be original as well. You have my vote. :)
I'm not into war stories, but this is very touching and I love your style of writing. I will definatly be reading on! (:
Aww that's such a touching chapter! I really felt for the little boy. This is a great opening chapter!
:'( That's so sad... A great way to start it off, though :) I didn't catch any problems here, but then again being only half awake doesn't help there.
