A stray tear trickled down his cheek. His lips formed a slight smile, “Temperance. I love you with all my heart. I want you to be happy. As much as I’d want you to, you wouldn’t be happy with me—not anymore. I love you enough to let you go.”
“Chris,” I started to say but he cut me off.
“Tempe,” he cooed as he took my face in his hands. “I love you.” He shakily pressed his lips to my forehead. A low sob came out of his mouth as he kissed me.
I wrapped my arms around his waist. “I’m so sorry Chris.”
He shook his head. “Don’t be. Just remember, that I’ll always be there for you. I’m letting you go. You’re free now.”
