The Apple iPad has been quickly adopted for ebook consumption since its introduction in April 2010. The iPad accounted for 5% of all iOS devices.The growth of smartphones continue to come from North America and Europe, whereas Java devices continue to lead growth in Asia.

Social networking continues to grow in importance as a vehicle for promoting ebooks. Over one third of users have interacted at least once with other readers or authors. This trend is particularly apparent among English speaking users, where 80% have contributed comments or interacted with other members.English is the most popular language for ebook consumption. Readers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia accounted for 42% of total ebook consumption.
The numbers of users accessing ebooks through mobile devices has continued to grow. iPhones are the most popular device amongst English speakers with an increase in iPhone users in Japan as well as Spain.
In developing countries, Java phones are the most popular mobile tool for accessing ebooks. Readers in Vietnam, South Africa and Indonesia accessed ebooks from Java phones 85% of the time.

Q4 2009 Metrics Report
Report Highlights
Wattpad mobile usage continued to grow rapidly. Subscribers now come from 600 mobile operators in more than 160 countries with cumulative downloads of over 5 million. The combination of the four major English speaking countries - US, UK, Canada and Australia - contributed to almost half of the total ebook consumption in Q4. Followed by Vietnamese and Bahasa Indonesia. US was the global leader in total ebook consumption (34%).Java devices remained the most popular in mobile ebook consumption. In particular, usage of Java devices in Asia experienced a 75% quarter to quarter growth, even faster than the iPhonesgrowth in English speaking countries (21% quarter to quarter). Android was the fastest growing segment among all mobile devices in ebook consumption. Though the usage was relatively small compared to other devices, Android was growing at a pace of 260% quarter to quarter.

Wattpad mobile usage continues to grow. Subscribers now come from 600 mobile operators in more than 160 countries with cumulative downloads of over 4 million. Although Java devices continue to be the most popular mobile ebook devices, the usage gap between Java devices and iPhone is shrinking. Fewer than 50% of ebook consumption was on Java devices while 42% of was on iPhone, this compares to 63% for Java devices and 33% for iPhone in Q2 2009. BlackBerry usage has grown almost 160% compared to Q2.US replaced Indonesia as the leading country in mobile ebook consumption in this quarter. Its dominancy comes mainly from the iPhone market. In the non-iPhone market, Indonesia and Vietnam together contribute to more than two third of the market. Over the last quarter, there is a 40% growth in desktop ebook consumption. More readers are reading from their desktops and they read more pages compared to Q2.

Wattpad is the world's most downloaded mobile ebook applications with 3.1M downloads, 60% more than second place Lexcycle Stanza (acquired by Amazon). Usage come from subscribers of over 450 mobile operators in 160 countries. Java devices are still the most used mobile platform for reading ebooks. 63% of ebook usage come from Java devices while 33% of usage now comes from iPhone. Nokia dominates the top device list. Though iPhone is the single top device, it is followed by a number of very popular Nokia Series 40 devices. iPhone dominates US ebook usage with 78% of iPhone usage comes from North America. Nokia still dominates the rest of the world. Blackberry usage grew over 400% since the launch of App World.
