Most of my works contain alot of mature stuff and i was begining to freak out when i saw the ages of most of the memebers on wattpad. I was begining to wonder how i was gonna tone down the mature content in my book, which would be hard work becuse its pratically finished.

So i enjoy reading books, short stories and poetry with mature content as well as i love writing them.

I went to college pretty early so I've felt disconnected from the high school sagas for a while, but when it comes to finding an entertaining read with a rom-com element, I often feel as if my choices are limited to stories about kids who just got their licenses or late-20-somethings who I can't yet relate to. Is there a reason for this, or am I just completely missing a huge niche market that already exists? Moreover, while my instinct is to classify most of the stuff that I'm currently working on as "Young Adult Fiction", today I learned that typically refers to ages 12-18 and not my broader interpretation of what it means to be a young adult. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Erotica is not really supported by wattpad (although reading some of the teen fantasies on here I do wonder how they get away with their PG13 ratings?) R rated books are hard enough to push without the myth that the R means sex and nothing but sex.

My one completed book, Absolution, is R rated. There is sex within the book but it takes until chapter 23 to get to anything resembling erotic as part of a developing and complicated romance. Some readers have accepted the R rating before they even get to sex chapters because the themes are dark; corruption, loss, grief, betrayal, addiction, desperation all play a role. The social scene is not appropriate to children or to many teens for that matter and that is why the book is R rated. It's about an appropriate level of maturity to deal with some of the scenes, not to do with erotica. Yet I've had people refuse to look at the story because of the R because they assume it's going to be erotica.

Between the assumption that R means sex on every page and vampire means Twilight it's a nightmare!

I don't want to know what you're reading on wattpad (no promoting here please), but rather if anyone has read something in the "real world" that has been great. I'll go first... Sticking with the genre, I loved 'The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden' by Jessica Sorenson. It's a fast read, takes two different perspectives in the story, it's tragic and a lovely example of realistic dialogue. The only thing that sucks is that she ends the book on such a cliffhanger you'll literally toss it across the room. Good news, sequel is out in August so you won't have to wait on baited breath like I have had to do. Warning: it deals with heavy themes. But it's also a love story and a pretty perfect one at that. Anyone else?
