The guy was before his time. Even Stephen King has said it, the man is the father of modern day horror. I feel like not enough of today's horror fans know about him. So here I am, trying to enlighten the masses of Wattpad's Horror Club. I've provided a link, and if you decide to check out any of his work keep in mind most of his stuff was written in 1918-1920, it'll give you a nice perspective. And if you'd like to read my favorite story by him check out "The Statement of Randolph Carter" The link below is a site that hosts most of his work for FREE! So pick your poison, and enjoy. |

I completely agree with you. People of today's modern youth in this generation are forgetting all about the unique idea's that revoluntionized and inspired most of today's great books. H.P. Lovecraft was a genius, and Stephan King apparently had a great deal of admiration for the man. More people need to be aware of this brilliant story-teller and what he was capable of. With you on that one! |

The grin that spread on my face when I saw this topic would make a grown man cry. Lovecraft was a genius and you can still see traces of the Cthulhu Mythos in King's books as well as some metal :P (Cradle of Filth's Cthulhu Dawn, anyone?) Another brilliant writer (also cited by Stephen King) was Arthur Machen, whose writings I can't find anywhere on the internet for free :/ (though I was lucky enough to get my hands on an old copy of 'The Great God Pan') Keep an eye out for his works next time you're at a good bookstore :) |

Ahh, H.P. Lovecraft. I've read the vast majority of his short stories. Hes by far the most amazing writer to have lived. I would love to be apart of a writing circle of writers similiarly minded. If youre interested, go by my profile and read "In Regard to Our Existence" or "Allure of the Unknown". Here is a site featuring some of the works that might have been missed in the above link. http://hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/ His elements of Cosmicism "a term coined himself" are great inspiration for true Horror and Weird Fiction. |

I think truthfully its his philosophy that made him less popular during his time. People back then weren't ready for that. Hell, people still aren't ready for that. But I for one welcome our new overlord Cthulhu. |

Hi Mike, just to add to the flow, you might want to check out ArkhamsHorror, Christian writes beautifully in Lovecraft / Poe inspired style. He's very good. Gav |

@MikeJPW Agreed. I think that horror fans place too much interest in zombies, ghouls and creatures of terrestrial and palpable traits. Because if you think about it, what is his most popular work? Call of Cthulu. Or Ktulu. Or whichever of the many ways he spells it you prefer. And what is one thing that this story has that most of his do not? A very earthly description of the beast Cthulu. Im not trying to down play the story at all. It's one of his best. But i will say that there is something to be said for the way he depicts the unknown. |

When I saw that forum topic, my face changed to Richard D. James. I can't stand today's vampire'n'werewolf stories. I love Lovecraft. We need more stuff like that today. He influenced about everything in the horror-genre (except for Twilight). I'a Cthulhu. |

Hm... I am a fan of Lovecraft, but I don't feel he's the King of horror... Cthulhu, though a very good read, is my least favourite Lovecraft story I have read, my favourite being Pickman's Model. The family (for me, anyway) goes like this: Father: Dracula Mother: Frankenstein Children: HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe Master: Stephen King I'll always be a fan of the greats, but King has got to be the King. |
