if a memory is just a flimsy snapshot of a moment... then it must be true that all writing is fiction, subjective and therefore a plain symbolic hoax to show others... history should also be seen in this light |

memories for some people can be very vivid and people can remember things like it was just yesterday and remember every detail of that. therefore writing can be non-fiction :) x @_Sardonica |

You're assuming that all non-fiction is reflective of the author, like memoirs, opinion pieces and that sort of thing. Most non-fiction is well-researched to avoid the pitfalls you're talking about. If you interview one person about an accident, you're likely to have a recalling that is colored by the witness' own perspective. But if you interview 20 about the same accident, they'll all have different versions of the event, but you'll get a much more accurate picture. And keep in mind that other than memoirs and historical books, most non-fiction is like the Dummies and Idiot's guides, focusing on a specify topic with no viewpoint at all. |
