I consider myself an Action and Thriller writer. I have literally tons of different ideas for action stories, probably more than I can ever write down, also I can help you with your current ideas. Just post here a basis for what you are looking for and I'll help the best I can! |

Well it depends, are you looking for a spy/paramilitary, war story, historical action story (for example a war or spy novel during the twenties), action is very vague. Action encompasses a lot. Just a random idea for you though: a sixteen year old boy caught living in third world Sudan where there is warlords, organized crime, apartheid. His whole family except for his sister is slaughtered in a terrorizing attack on their village. While the attack is going on the boy saves his sister from an attacker and soon finds the family dead. He takes the sister and makes a run for it with her into the hostile environment. That was just a random idea that came to me a second ago. Not something I would write, but maybe you could make use of it @LaurenPearson0 |

Well since you have experience with romance you could use that skill or experience and use it to enhance an action story. Like, I got nothing but I remember running across a 1930's romance action gang novel done in the wife of a Mafia member's point of view. A good way to learn how to write an action story is to read an action story written by a renowned author, for example James Rollins, or if you are looking for a really militaristic story, Tom Clancy, there is also Brad Thor and Vince Flynn. All very famous authors writing very famous action stories. If you want to learn, I'd either teach myself or read an action to get the feel of it. @LaurenPearson0 |

@LaurenPearson0 Then since you may already know generally what they are like you could try your hand at short stories first. They could be like a few chapters long and have a small story line and then you can work your way up to longer, more detailed and complex story lines. That is actually what I did at first, then I made those short stories into longer stories meant to be novels. Or if you don't like writing short stories you could practice writing action sequences, with guns, swords, wands, weapons, etc. Romance should give you a good understanding of how to make scenes and events that characterize characters and interactions between them. Dialogue shouldn't be too much harder to write. Really what differentiates actions and thrillers from the rest of the pack is they almost always involve fighting on some level. Whether it be war, spying, fighting, etc. So working on fight scenes would be the best thing to work on. |

Well of course I got spy ideas... but I don't like touching the teen spy thing since as you may know is predominated by Alex Rider, but nonetheless I'll give you an idea here it is: Henrietta Waldorf, a sixteen year old German with an expert strategist mind, inadvertently finds herself involved in underground human trafficking. When those conducting the crime notice her she is now on the run. Instinctively she runs to the police. From what she has witnessed, she is immediately brought up to the BFV, the German domestic intelligence service, and they perform an interview with her as the eye witness. Little did she know that she got herself in deep with the Red Mafiya's business and they plot to have her assassinated. They fail once and Henrietta is placed under the direct guard of the BFV's best agent: Torsten Strauss, who is a black haired, devilishly handsome, man of thirty two. Concurrently Torsten must guard Henrietta, who is the only one with knowledge of where they might be, and search the seedy underground of human society where Red Mafiya operates. While they search, the Red Mafiya is deadset on killing both of them and they plan to use everything they got. How does that sound to you? That came off the top of my head. I'm not going to write this, but maybe you could make use of it. P.S. if you do decide to use this, pretty please dedicate the book, please with a cherry on topy =). JK you don't have to @faithtrustpixiedust |
