I have a few things to say...

    1) First of all, hello everyone! 2) Is there like, a secret reason why it's really hard to find stories not about dukes and princess? I don't have anything against them, I just wish there was a bit more variety, y'know? 3) So if any of you have any non-princessy historical fiction stories, I'd love to read it! 4) I'm writing a story (not yet on Wattpad) about an Ethiopian muslim girl who moves to America in the 1980s to escape the HIV/AIDS epidemic. I would consider this Historical Fiction (it was 30 years ago..) but maybe it should just be teen fiction? Help me decide!!

Anyway, thank you all in advance. :)

P.S.: If I don't reply fast enough, I'm uuuber sorry. My tablet and wattpad clubs/forums aren't very friendly.

Hello, welcome to Wattpad! I guess there are so many duke/princess stories because people think they are more interesting than the common person. My story, the White Magnolia, is a Christian Historical set in the South during and after the Civil War. It's sort of like Gone with the Wind. Also, I recommend shelbylw's historical romances. About your book, I think Wattpad says that historical fiction stories are stories that have taken place before the 1940s. If it's about a teenager, I would consider reclassifying it to be something like Romance Teen Fiction, or Spiritual Teen Fiction.

    1) It seems that's what the majority wants. 2) Yes, actually, my story doesn't revolve around princesses or dukes for that matter of fact. 3) Your topic is interesting because it's not very common. That makes it even more mind-grabbing.

I suspect one reason there are so many stories about Dukes and Princesses is that they are people who have power over their own lives. Throughout history, most people had very little choice about how or where they lived, who they married, stuff like that. To a large extent, your future was laid out for you from the day you were born.

You need a certain amount of education and money, to be able to decide what you were going to do with your life and who you were going to marry, and to do the sort of things which would make an interesting story.

The son of a poor family might get to choose if he wants to apprentice to the blacksmith or become a farm laborer. His choice of wife might be the blacksmith's daughter or the dairy maid on the farm. Vital decisions to him, but not going to make a great novel.

Mind you, I reckon most princesses didn't have that much choice. I never use a princess as a heroine, there are too many contraints on their lives.

Hi! I'm not sure that your story would be called a 'Historical'..... But I'm not sure what to class it as!!!

My story is bellow, it's a saxon romance, please give it a try???

‘The Promise’ is set in saxon England and is the first book in ‘The Lady Quill Chronicles’, a series that tells how one battle changes the lives of 5 foster brothers. This book is the story of Rafe and Adele and the promise that binds them together.....

I consider historical anything prior to 1990. It'd probably been a historical teen fiction. @LadyHollie

Ookay, so it's "technically" just a teen fiction story, but in reality it's historial fiction because it's not modern day (aka post 1990) ? Is that right?

As a woman of a certain age... My kids were born in 1986, 1989, and 1992 so I consider calling 1980 Historical to be slightly insulting. Then again, my kids call me an antique, which I consider slightly insulting (LOL) BUT, its all a matter of perspective. if someone were born after 2000 I could see why they might consider the 80's historical, just not to someone who lived in that time.

@PixieKari My kids are quite proud of never having seen a film that was made in the last century. They've just dscovered Buffy and Angel, and are trying hard to pretend they are this century, not last.
