@ElleChanter Star Wars has changed what people thinkis science fiction. Star Wars is THIRTY FIVE YEARS old. The producers said it was not science fiction in 1977. But 10 year old kids were not paying attention to that. So how many people under the age of 43 have been bombarded with Star Wars all of their lives? There is more to science fiction than sci-fi tropes. psik |

@psikeyhackr How many people? Well, you certainly can't say that you know... Anyhow, ok, let's say for god's sake that star wars is not a 'sci-fi', what difference does it make? It's still a great film series, and I would choose star wars over star trek any day, that's just my opinion.. |

@ElleChanter I said THE PRODUCERS. Sorry, I forgot to provide a link. http://blogs.starwars.com/danwallace/15/comments I didn't say it was a bad film. It is like Lord of the Rings not being science fiction. Lucas called Star Wars Space Fantasy in 1977. The story in Star Wars is like fantasy but it has science fiction tropes mixed in, like space ships. Science fiction is intellectually different from fantasy. |

@nedloh ...I'm not reading this entire thead (yet, at least :)) ...but, my opinion:: I would almost (almost!) put the next generation & the original star wars on equal pedalstools. both are brilliant, thought provoking, absolutely captivating & entertaining. there. I am officially out of the nerd closet. |

@psikeyhackr fantasy and sci fi cross between there for it works out the ultimatum of the producers |

Well it basically comes down to who's finer. Captain Kirk or Han Solo? ... damn. Well if we're going by old captain kirk than Han Solo wins. BUT if we're going by the new Captain Kirk... plus sexy spock... divided by the fineness of Bones... multiplied by whiney Luke Skywalker/sister kiss the answer is... highly illogical. So.. Han Solo shoots them and wins. |

@nedloh Data is actually just one of the best actors of TNG. Without him, no Enterprise. |

Star Trek or Star Wars...hmmm. Star Trek has a strong nostalgia vibe for me whilst Star Wars (esp. Knights of the Old Republic) also has a strong nostalgia vibe. But then BSG is without doubt the best. |

Star wars & star trek are in two different categories: books & movies. I like star wars books better than star trek books. Mainly because star trek books are to wordy and I get bored quickly. At the same time, I like star trek movies better then star wars movies. Because I find star trek movies more exciting then star wars movies. Star trek is also more realistic then star wars in the sense that star trek takes place in the future, instead of 'a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away'. |

Lightsabers beats anything Star Trek has to offer, so definitely Star Wars. |
