As the title says, does anyone have any weird or unusual phobias? I need some ideas for a story I'm writing. Maybe even post about some that you don't actually suffer through, but someone you know does. Or, you can make up one! Okay, so post your weird phobias. I look forward to reading about them! Thanks |

I'm scared of staplers. I know that makes me sound kinda weird, but when I was about 7 these bullies in my class used to shoot staples at me, so it's kinda understandable. |

@Lamsy101 I was talked into stapling my fingers together when I was younger because a classmate of mine did it and he said it didn't hurt xDD needless to say my dad's boss forever thinks of me as a suicidal, strange child and never will that white stapler get rid of blood stains -u- |

@berryyluv :: I don't suffer from it, but I find this phobia and it's name very ironic: hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia ......... The fear of long words. Irony: it IS a long word :) |

@fictionfanatic Haha yeah! I've heard that one before. It is very ironic, and whoever invented that word is kinda mean... lol |

@berryyluv :: I know what you mean, they're extremely creepy!!..... I believe the fear of dolls is Pediophobia... O.o Oh, and I think the fear of garden gnomes is "Gnomophobia"... But that's if it's classified as a real phobia :D |

@fictionfanatic Lol I guess you could make up your own phobia name anyway if you wanted to... I mean, if someone is scared of something, then it's a phobia haha |

@fictionfanatic The fear of long words is simply sesquipidaliaphobia. Hippopatomonstro was added to it as a joke, its very intention being irony. @berryyluv An interesting writing exercise would be to write about a character who is panophobic--that is, they're afraid of everything. It would be interesting to see how all these seemingly innocuous things were frightening to someone. |

@GradyRichards Yes! That would be interesting... I, personally, have a lot of phobias so it probably wouldn't be too hard to write something like that. |

I have a phobia for possessed dolls and mannequins...I was once in Strawberry- a store. And they have mannequins everywhere- I was cursing that I ever went to the store. Plus, I had many dreams about possessed dolls-freaky dreams. |

I have a fear of fire. I am absoloutly fine with wood burning in a fire place, but get me anywhere near a bunsen burner or gas oven and I freak out and sit as far away as possible. It has got to the point that in science I sat fasinated by the bit of burning magnesiun, but also tried not to freak at the bunsen burner. I think it is just fires fueld by gas that gets me. |

I have a phobia of hair, like when a stray one gets stuck on you in the shower. It reminds me of spider webs. Two points of irony to this: I have long hair and therefore a lot of stray hair, and I'm not afraid of spider webs. The other phobia I have is of chalk. Just thinking about the texture makes me grind my teeth together and gives me shivers. |
