@senseiseth lol it really isn't an argument. An argument implies the presence of two parties conflicting through a difference in opinion. She's just remarking on the subjectivity of literature, which is, what one person may like another may not lol really guys, this is common sense lol it doesn't need to be "argued" and shouldn't be discussed at all lol but I guess it's a popular topic to discuss for whatever reason lol:P |

To be honest, a lot of the stories that are constantly in the 'What's Hot' and are winning in the Watty Awards are absolute rubbish. Their spelling and grammar is absolutely awful and the story is so cliched and boring. I have read so many amazing stories that have under a thousand reads. I am not saying that there's nothing good at the top, I've read stories that have a fair few number of reads and their amazing and they deserve their spot. But most of it is rubbish. |

@GypsyFair I agree, I have read few stories on What's Hot that are very interstering such as: The Shy Girl Has A Gun, but honestly, a lot of stories don't get the right attention and have awful grammar, which is unfair. |

You guys can just post awesome stories that should be on the Watty Awards, like that ones that show excellence in writing skills and plot lines, I mean this post was originally intended for this |

@DurdensLover That is what I try to do but I believe the problem, especially with this thread, is that what necessarily is interesting or entertaining to some- is not necessarily interesting to others and therefore they view it as rubbish. It's more or less a no win situation. People can go round and round in circles on this topic but does it really make a difference in the long run? |

I would love to see a romance story that has no happy ending. And I say that because your average cliche teen fiction romance always has a happy ending, and I am seriously starting to get annoyed with these stupid stories that are just trash. Ive read only ONE teen fiction romance story that didnt have a good ending, and that was about a girl with cancer ~sigh~. I may be wrong by saying this, but I think some of these teenagers need to grow up and start realizing that some of those stories absolutely suck. Please correct me if I am wrong for what I have said, but this is how I feel. P.s. I'm twelve so if something I said didnt make sense then feel free to point it out =P. P.P.S I'm not looking for an argument, I just want to speak my mind =) |

@xangelsmomx Well, yes, in the long-run it all depends on the readers and their preferences, and according to the demographics of this site, it probably will not change unless the voters themselves develop. And I know what its like to be 12 years old and stuck in your own fantasy land of what should be a good story; but the purpose of this thread is not specified on a a genre, just something that surpasses the usual tropes and predictability of most works to something noted for higher quality. I'm not saying that all the nominations should be future Nobel Prize winners, just something that makes us think. This thread was supposed to show that there are some nominations out there that is just basic fluff no substance whatsoever; and that may be appealing to some but not to a true reader. Initially this thread was meant for critique and what should be nominated in each category instead, or at least some standards. |

@A_Lovely_Lover4Life No I concur completely. Life doesn't always end in neat/happy endings. and the sooner people realize this, the better. |

@A_Lovely_Lover4Life So what do you not like about these endings? Are they too conventional? Do they live you at a cliffhanger? Is it too rushed or overdone? Or do just not want to see a happy ending? See the problem that I see with these teenagers is that sometimes we can't extend to what we're usually comfortable with; as in going beyond the boundary lines. And I think that's why I find it so hard to write a book, I'm too awkward in finding consequential scenes that fit the story but ones that are not too predictable yet still make sense without having that bad soap opera scene. So it's a matter of skill and experience, but these writers won't know how to develop if someone doesn't critique them so that they can grow. So as long as you say why they "suck" then you can ultimately assist them in creating better works. ;D |

XD Lol honestly, I don't really have a problem with happy endings, it's just the way people are constantly using them and not even attempting to think outside the box. It just irritates me to see people (kinda) giving up on their imagination. But, I might be a hypocrite for saying that, considering I barely have an imagination XD lol. @DurdensLover |

@A_Lovely_Lover4Life It's a fair thing to say. But let's be sensible, many younger people do have a thirst to watching happy endings. I mean look at Disney films based on fairy tale stories. Little Mermaid, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Lion King (which is one of my favorite films), and even the Steadfast Tin Soldier (which still makes my cry like a baby when I hear that bloody story). All them add major elements of their stories changed to sanitize them for an audience, and two of those had their endings completely changed. It's just a little hard to stomach sometimes. |

@A_Lovely_Lover4Life yes,I would rather see some twists in the happy ending rather than the overused boring ones. Lol, I know how you feel, I used to be so creative when I was younger but now my imaginations stinks and I can hardly write creative stories for my English class, lol. |

@senseiseth Maybe they do realize it, they just use writing as a medium to escape realism, I mean that's usually the point in creating fictional works-sometimes. :p |

Why is there so much negativity here? Everyone complains about cliche, happy endings or spelling etc. This site isn't for professionals, it's for EVERYONE to have a go at writing. People seem to forget that. Lets have a little more love and praise! Maybe I'm just a happy person but even if I don't like a story I can still appreciate that it probably too the writer a lot of time and effort. There's a lot of crap in the world already, lets stop crapping on each other here! |

@princessharley I agree with you, I'm not a writer but the way people talk about writers who are actually successful on this site disgusts me. If a cliche is what the majority wants then there is nothing that can be done about it... They can figure out that life doesn't always have a happy ending but they cant figure out that not everyone can be pleased. |

@princessharley - I agree 100% I joined the site cause I like to read and I like to read happy endings. For a lot of us reading is a way to escape reality and for those moments while reading a cliche-y book we can almost pretend thats how life is! And its no fun to be on a site where everyone is b*tching at everybody! |

@senseiseth Just step outside, I'm sure there will be something crappy going on! I just think people should read what they like and ignore what they don't, not slate it. @wattreader213 @Energy14 Glad you agree, didn't think anyone would! I hate that this site is like high school sometimes *sigh* Everyone's a critic though I guess!! |
