What makes a classic a classic? Is it the plot, the characters or maybe it was the way that it was written in. I want you, Wattpadiers (wattpad pionners) to tell me what makes a classic a classic. |

I'm sure it's the age and quality of the work. a lot of older stories can be considered classics because of the age. Then you have stories like Tom Sawyer, The Pride and Prejudice, and The scarlet Letter, that are classics because they stood the test of time and were consider high quality stories back in there day. |

I think classic writers write with a sense of maturity that most authors don't have. Also, I think it has to do a bit with the plot presenting a new idea or new way of looking at something. |

Amazing, pure and very...elegent writing that uses beautiful wording that you don't see anymore, strong and believable characters and a unique storyline or one that nobody can forget. |

I think Classics are these works that resisted over time and that everybody enjoys (much or less). |

A classic is a book that deals with social situations or tells a basic story line in a memorable way. |

@absentmindedme Reviving old threads - yay! As far as I've noticed, classics are classics, because they're different - or new. But I think there are different reasons for classics to become classics. Some just hit the nerve of the time - as mentioned above - the social situations, the historical landmarks - others are just totally different and offer an alternative viewpoint than any of the other writings of a historical period. |

I think classics are classics because they are these portals that take you back in time, to a whole new and unknown world. They're those kind of books that you can pick up and read again and again and they never get old. They are the books you want to read by candle light in front of your fireplace, in your rocking chair, bundled in a blanket so you can feel like you are actually back in time. A classic is a classic because it alters the readers life forever. |
