Tell me your lies, people!

I'm mulling over writing a story- fiction- about a person reflecting on the various important lies they've told throughout their life. I want each chapter to be about one lie- as it affected and developed this person's character. But because I don't want to use the lies I've told- I don't write stories about myself- so could you please please pretty please post some of your lies? Thanks :) x

@TheSpiritGaveMeWords I guess, as a pretty important one, lying about adoption. Some parents wait till the kid is eighteen to tell them and that's got to have a pretty big impact. Similarly, childhood pets dying and being told they've run away, a parent's affair that you're shielded from, possible alcoholism and the subsequent effect of cirrhosis, things like cancer or something equally lifethreatening / changing, a death in the family, etc.

@TwinPeacock That's a really good point. Though I was originally going to have it just be lies the main character told, I think I may make the story be about lies that just plain affected them. Thank you. x

@TheSpiritGaveMeWords What about lies that they've told themselves?

What about lying about your identity?

    @Th3WolfInDisguis3 Like what? Saying you're someone you're not? x

Slightly morbid here, and a slightly different take on things, but what about lying about yourself? Like scars. Similar to what @Th3WolfInDisguis3 says in lying about your identity and pretending to be someone you're not, but not in a literal case - more of a "having serious issues but I can't tell anyone so I'll pretend I'm the class clown and always have a smile on my face" kinda thing. It sounds a bit odd I suppose and obviously you don't have to do this, I just thought it might be a different take on this. Things that people struggle with everyday - mental illness, maybe, self-harm, stuff like that, and being based in a school environment where obviously you have to lie to get through the day. I know, I know, morbid, weird, different, strange etc. but as someone who struggles with both mental illness and self-harm, the start of the process is lying, pretty much, about who you really are. I know this is a late reply (I just stumbled across this post), please don't hold back on expressing any opinion you may have. I just thought it might shed a light on this kind of stuff. :) x

My lie: I once almost killed the dog with a bow and arrow. My little brother and I were messing about with the target, bow and arrows we had been given for christmas. The dog ran in front of the target as I let the arrowfly. If she wasn't a super speedy collie, she would have been killed by it.@TheSpiritGaveMeWords

I just made that up by the way. Like just now. haha! x

Lying to a kid about adoption can go two ways- what if your main character was the parent? I've lied to a girl about how close a friendship I wanted to have with her.

Could you do it in any way that you tell your own lies, but change names for privacy? Publish under a pen name?

Lie: I'm not in love with him!

    Lie: I'm happy for you.

Lie about his/her weight? (I do that.. *guilty*)

Lie to people through compliments such as "You're so kind" when obviously she's a raging ***** lol.

Lie about not knowing a certain person when in fact you know them to the core.

Lie about loving one of your parents when you don't.

Lie about commitment, where you delude yourself that you shall stay with that certain someone or with your family when in fact all you desire is freedom.

    Lie about school grades?

Lie about your name? age? ethnicity?

Lie about your appearance (ex: hair dye, eye-colored lenses.. etc)

    Lie about your diet.

    Lie about your feelings.

Mm If I thought of anymore I would tell you. But if you notice most of these simple lies are not to elude others but to elude the person himself with the idea that he is only beautiful with a certain lense color, certain weight, certain person.. etc @TheSpiritGaveMeWords
