Why do you believe what you believe?

...Or not? Tell me what you believe in, why you are part of the faith you are part of, or why you are not part of a faith, etc. Your take on the meaning of life, your reasons for believing what you do. #bored and curious

@BlueberryWaffles I believe in Buddhism, I'm a Buddhist. Well, my religion is also a philosophy and I love that. I've read about other religions and the ones I've reada bout...I just didn't believe in. I clicked with Buddhism. I can't explain why I believe in what I believe in though; I just do and find it to be Truth.

@BlueberryWaffles I'm Christian because that's what My family is but I'm also it by choice because I have personal proof of it being real. And also, at school when we learn about other religions and stuff- they just don't make sense to me and I just don't believe in it so :)

@BlueberryWaffles I'm an Agnostic, but leaning towards atheism. I believe what I believe because it makes the most sense to me, where other things seem flawed. I believe you cannot say for certain anything happened unless you experienced it yourself, and even then, your experiences may not be accurate. However, I believe you should trust what you have discovered, and use it to make increasingly accurate assumptions about the world. And the meaning of life, in my opinion, is to fufill your instinctive desires. While respecting that other people also have their desires to fufill.

@BlueberryWaffles I guess I'm sort of... everything, if that makes sense. I mean, I believe in evolution, but I also saw somewhere: God is too big for ONE religion. I think that's true, because... well, if there is an all-powerful God out there, how do we know that other religions' gods aren't like different versions of Him?

@BlueberryWaffles I am a Christian for a few different reasons: I have personal proof of God and Jesus (I've seen things happen that you would never believe such as: instant heeling, instant weight loss, etc.), it makes more sense that there is a creator of the universe as opposed to some magical explosion creating EVERYTHING PERFECTLY, nature testifies to God, and the old stone tablets (original script of the holy bible) predicted that the things that are happening now would happen and those old scripts were written thousands of years ago. But believe whatever you want to believe and please let me do the same ;)

thanks for commenting everybody :) @chemicalnoise I've always admired Buddhism, that's very cool. What beliefs in Buddhism do you like the most? @Improbable_Heart That's really interesting! I'm agnostic too, but I find your meaning of life very intriguing... what do you mean exactly by fulfill your instinctual desires? @Katybug1337 I actually sort of agree with you. About the idea that God is something bigger than organized religion as he can appear in different forms... mythology has always interested my because of the patterns that are the same in cultures thousands of miles away from each other. I've always felt there was a kernel of truth somewhere, you know? @AnthonyDBye That makes sense. Would you be comfortable telling me about the impossible things you've seen a bit? You've piqued my curiosity ;)

@BlueberryWaffles I mean just keep or brains making the chemicals that make us feel happy. Simply, the things that was naturally want, success over our peers, love, and knowledge.

@BlueberryWaffles Atheists will say either it's not true or there's a scientific explanation for it (and I'm a science geek and I know there's not an explanation for it outside of God), but I've seen people in prayer instantly get healed and many more things. One time there was this little girl dying in a hospital of cancer, her mother came to my church's prayer meeting to pray for her. I was standing in the front, with a microphone, praying for people who had come to the service. But then I heard a voice in my heart that said "there is a little girl in a hospital dying, pray for her now." I had NO idea that there was a girl dying of cancer in a hospital and I didn't even know what direction the hospital was, but God had me point in the direction of the hospital and tell everyone to pray for a girl dying of cancer. So, everyone did, especially the mother. Suddenly, God told me that she was dead and to pray for her spirit to come back to her body. So, we did. Then, God told me to take everyone to the hospital, so I did. Once we got there, the girl's nurse ran to the girl's mother and said "it's a miracle! She was dead, but now she's alive again!" The message that I always try to teach Atheists is that, they always look for proof of God on Earth and see none, but where they don't look for God is in their own hearts and in the hearts of Christians. Why do you think Christians (true ones) are always so happy, it's because God fills us with his presence and we become truly happy!

@AnthonyDBye What are you trying to say? That we Atheists aren't truly happy?

  • CoolStoryJackSparrow

I knew this would cause problems. Geez.

Well, I don't even know. Honestly, a part of me wants to believe, believes, that there is a God that tries his hardest to make his children happy and fixes everything just because he wants happiness. But there's another part of me like; Really, Cade? Be serious.

So I don't know where I stand. Sometimes I do feel like there is a God, there is someone in my heart trying to make this a better place, but then there's the big question; "If there is a God, why is the world like this? None of this makes sense. Why?"

I don't know if I'm an atheist or not, and I don't really care. I judge by personalities, not by beliefs. I will know my place and what I should believe when it's time. Right now I'm just....me. Kind of confused really.

There's no use trying to change someone's opinion. It's what they believe. Not aiming this at anyone, just saying.

And wow, this got inspirational fast.

@TheLocalGuerilla what he's trying to say is that Christians(true ones) are always happy despite how miserable life may be for them. if i wasn't Christian i would be suffering from severe depression by now. Atheists or people with no religion might find it harder to get over things like depression but it depends on the person's outlook on life and the person's own self confidence .

@Strawb_Ari Actually, since I've abandoned the Christian religion, I've been far happier with life. When I was Christian I didn't really enjoy life as much as I do now, because I thought of it as just something you had to do before getting to heaven. Now, I enjoy it because I know it's fleeting and it would be best to get every bit of happiness I can from it, even during those sad moments. And even when I die, I know now that there are other humans who will continue to be happy and progress. I'm content with that. I used to think that Atheists would be extremely bored with life because it would go away so soon, but I understand that that is not how things work. (Most of the time. There are likely Atheists who are discontented with their short span of existence.)

It's okay i respect ur opinion! :) i don't really need the happiness that life has to offer. a far greater happiness is waiting for me after i die....:) i like that u aren't one of those people who like to cause arguments over these sorts of things! @Improbable_Heart

@TheLocalGuerilla No, but it's a sad way to live: living in a Godless world (sort of speak). @Improbable_Heart I'm sorry, but if your weren't happy when you were a Christian than you really didn't have God in your heart.

@ShoveItWithNinjas PLEASE READ AND AT LEAST LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY, I WANNA HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THIS. The world is like this because of what men have done, not what God has done. Think of it this way, God is our father and we are his children, if children do something wrong, they get punished. Plus, in the book of Revelations (in the Bible) God says that there will be much suffering in the "End Times" the final days before Jesus comes back). He said: "I will bring down your God's of gold and silver," he is talking about the world's economy. Those who deny God and who don't accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior will face the wrath of God (Armageddon). You must have Jesus in your heart and you must be born again, Jesus himself said (in the Bible), "I am the way, the truth, and the light and NO ONE gets to the father, but by me." To better understand what Jesus said and taught, please read Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible -you will better understand Jesus' teachings. And to learn more about what is happening to this world, why, what it means, etc. read the book of Revelations. Bad things like natural disasters, economic problems, etc. are signs, signs that we are living in the final days and Jesus is about to come back. These signs are happening now and they're happening fast, as foreseen and written in the Bible, even in the original stone tablets which the Bible was first written on thousands of years ago. Atheists always say "the bible isn't proof of God." Well, it was written thousands of years ago that what is happening now would happen. Plus, as I always say, Atheists always look for proof of God on Earth, but they never look in their own hearts and in the hearts of true Christians who have been touched by him.

@AnthonyDBye You sound like my dad, just saying. My dad is a heavy christian and that so sounds like something he would say. We have a lot of bibles at home, and I did read some, but ....

See, this confuses me. A lot of questions one through my mind when we talk about this, you know? It kind makes me feel...weird...when most of the kids at my school believe in God and know where they stand, and I'm all like "Uh....I don't know..."

That thing about Atheists, it makes me shrug really. I try to focus on the things in life like education, wealth, etc, so my religion isn't the thing I'm focusing on at the moment. It's more of "Holy crap, school is coming in...*counting down the days*" lol, yeah.

And about that, my confused beliefs may be because I haven't gone to Church. We go there every once and a while, but not daily. My dad really wants to go church, but something always stops him. I feel bad, though he does read the bible a lot and have some photos of God in his room to make up for the lack of Church.

@ShoveItWithNinjas Three things: First, if you don't understand anything about God and have a lot of questions (and I can tell you do), than read the Bible and ask God to help you understand it...even get the New International Version (NIV). Second, if God isn't the most important thing in your life, than that is a bad thing, especially since you say that one pf the things that is important to you is wealth, when that shouldn't even be in the top ten most important things in your life. Third, if you are a child or pre-teen, than you have one thing that will make it okay to not have religion be the most important thing in your life: innocence.
