I'm curious as to what classic novels you all are/have been assigned to read for your English/Literature/etc. courses. This summer, I've read and written responses to "1984" by George Orwell and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey. Both were fantastic. =D
So...What classics have you all been reading so far this summer and what have your opinions been?

I've had a lot of books assigned over the past few years for high school (not really summer, our summer books suck).
8th Grade (Freshman level english, we take it early)
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
A Christmas Carol
The Old Man at Sea/ Little Women (it was a choice between the two)
Hound of the Baskervilles I think we read something else that was classic but i can't remember it :(
9th Grade Lit. -
Canterbury Tales (try learning the old english prologue and saying it in front of you WHOLE class 2 weeks in your freshman year. FUN )
Utopia (still pissed off no one mentioned Sir Thomas More's relation to Henry VIII. Or anything about the author. Maybe it would be nice to know the man who wrote "this amazing" "perfect world" burned people at the stake...)
Wuthering Heights/Animal Farm (Choice between the two)
Sir Gawn And the Green Knight *no clue if that's spelled right*
Iliad by Homer
and a TON of other poems/short stories. Every month we had a novel or 2 and 6 new poem/short story to read and work on.
I'm just now starting 10th..so i haven't read much for it
