What I Hate About Wattpad Writers/Stories

There are so many things wrong with this site. Well not Wattpad but the inhabitants of wattpad. And then let's not forget their offspring.

Like:

☺ They're all SUPER SENSITIVE or SUPER DEFENSIVE. Or both.

◘ When popular writers are actually really bad (this is in a few cases, not all) but no one tells them and then when some unfortunate bloke comes along and gives constructive criticism, they get attacked.

○ A lot of people think they're the shit.

♣ A lot of people are overly-confident/cocky when their writing isn't as good as it is in their delusional minds.

♠ A lot of people EXPECT their work be loved and cherished for all of eternity and can't stand the idea of it *not* being as good as they think it is.

☻There is too much 1D fanfiction. Why??

♥In the SYS club, there are the people who NEVER follow through.

☺All the female protagonists (in A LOT of the books) are weak and pathetic, and most of the time I'm waiting for a truck to hit them so they can end their useless lives. Except oh wait, werevamp Harry Styles will save the day!

◘ The guy protagonists are either: "Grr. Obey me." OR "I have a penis, therefore I am right and better than you. Now get down on your knees and worship me"

○Let's not forget to mention the HORNY stories (a lot of stories have sex scenes as their climax --dirty pun) adding on to the above comment: "While you are on your knees, give me a BJ, thanks boo."

♣These are just a few of the MANY things I hate about Wattpad stories/writers.

I totally agree. 1D fiction seems creepy to me, but so does any sort of fan fiction that is based around a real person. I refuse to read them. I'd be lost anyway, I have no clue who they are.

Also, if you are going to put your work out there for the world (or well wattpad) don't get your panties in a bunch when someone isn't over the moon for it. Can you be sad? Yes. Can you whine, yell or insult people who are trying to help? No. Go write in your journal and cry in a corner, but leave it out of the comment boards and forums. If I get critiques, I try to take what I can from them and incorporate the feedback. But you know, I'm an adult and most of these people are in middle school.

Actually that's no excuse. I wrote crappy stuff on fictionpress in middle school and handled reviews like a champ. So screw that excuse.

@ForeverMalak hahah I do that sometimes, it's what I call my "burnable upon death" folder. If I ever actually get published and have any success, no one is allowed to go into the catacombs of fictionpress and dig out that crap.

Last summer I started editing a cliche old high school story I wrote before I'd even set foot in a high school. It was hilarious.

I'm so out of the loop on pop culture. I think I've heard one 1D song on the radio (which I didn't know was them until this site) and instantly thought it was ridiculous. Honestly I didn't think I'd live to see the return of the boy bands. They proved me wrong.

@ForeverMalak Oh! Also, grammar. WTH. Some people can't string sentences together and ask for criticism on SYS. I never know where to begin. All I can think of is the Dorothy Parker quote, "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly -- it should be thrown with great force."

Haha that's awesome! I just don't deal with my old stories. If I think it has promise, then I'll probably rewrite it. Lol I was always a fantasy/sci-fi person so I don't have any high school stories. I have a few pre-pre teen fics and one rather lengthy preteen fiction but they both suck. I wrote them in the fourth grade and NEVER finished them.

LOLOLOLOL. Right? God I was watching N*sync music videos yesterday. ROFL they suck so bad. NOt the band the graphics.

@ForeverMalak In the past my stories were always more relationship based, but it bored me. Just started giving fantasy/adventure a go. For once I actually started writing with a plot outline haha ... guess it's pretty obvious why my other stories never got finished.

I'm still new, so I've been making my rounds in the SYS club. It's pretty frustrating sometimes. It seems like no one follows the actual rules of the forum and every post comes with a threat. It's like a battle ground in there!

@aprocne Fantasy is so much fun! I need to cut the romance reading cause a lot of my books are starting to focus on relationships instead of it being a subplot :/ only one book has an excuse and that is my romance.

I KNOW. I hate it. My threads always fail there. I give up.

@ForeverMalak I'm having so much fun with it! I haven't put both feet in the water yet and gone for complete world building, but after this book, who knows? I decided when I first thought of my story that romance was not going to be a key element. If I could avoid it, I would. For all I know, the characters might take up a life of their own in the future, but they will not hijack my plot! I won't allow it haha.

Oh another thing. I'm a newb, I have no idea what the hot list really is and how these things are actually decided. All the sudden there are just numbers near my story that randomly go up and down hahah

@aprocne LOL. I hate/love when characters do that. My first book I ever wrote was a fantasy on weed but it was going to be a trilogy and despite the fact that the characters were 12, 11, 10, in that order they were going to have love intersts in the second book.

I blame Twilight. After reading that book I've become addicted to romance. If there is no romance for some reason I can't make it through. :/

The What's Hot List is so odd. I don't understand it. Like Wattpad explains it, frequently, but I still don't get it. Haha.

I need a good book to read and yours look promising, plus with your humor I'm sure it's funny, so I"m so going to read. Just not now. It's 2 a.m.

Omg.. I knew these were stereotypes of stories but I never thought they were this bad XD. All of my stories lack these type of things so I'm glad. (lol at the male character comment... "Grrr. I have a penis.)

That is good. I don't think mine have any of that either. And I'm not that bad with criticism. Lol. Usually people who rant in these discussions end up being hypocrites. You click on their profile and every single story or whatever has something that they complained about.

Another thing I hate.

Complaining.

@ForeverMalak Haha omg.. I am possibly the biggest hypocrite when it comes to complaining about complainers. XD

Though it does help me that I usually write in a quirky guy's pov (meaning he's about as awkward as a baby penguin.) and I avoid all those elements you listed already. (then again I do write gay love stories that lack any sex scenes.)

I like my writing to be unique. :D

I LOVE AWKWARD GUYS. I have a nerdy boy as one of my MC (this was before they were made into hotties by all these strange writers on here) he's awkward with girls but he's sarcastic enough that he's on my list.

Me too. Most of the time mine is, some stories are a bit cliche but I like writing them so I"m not going to stop:P

But yeah, I mean there's nothing WRONG with sex scenes it's just when the whole book leads up to that, that it's just -___-

@aprocne Totally. I try to avoid to write anything that I know I would hate to read myself.. No matter how easy it seems to write itself. I am comfortable challenging myself against the norm rather than writing what every teenage girl and mother knows how to write.

@ForeverMalak On sex scenes, it could be an amazing bonding moment for both characters. I just hate when an entire book is basically porn and the writer genuinely think they have written a masterpiece *cough* 50 shades of gray *cough*.

Awkward guys are the best to write with because it seems like they have a mind of their own. My characters tend to write for themselves. XD

Cliche is my middle name, when it comes to awkward teen love affairs. :D

I'm originally from New Jersey, self loathing is in my genetics.

Also agreed that sex scenes (I almost inadvertently made the same climax joke you did earlier) shouldn't be the point of the novel, just an occurrence.

@AflyingMonkey Kudos to you on that! Stories like that anyone can write in their sleep, it takes work, guts and let's face it a smidgen of luck to think out of the box enough to write something original.

Also, I have a weakness for the awkward guys. Nerds, gotta love 'em. Kindred spirits!

I hate seeing the same character on here over and over. Teenage girl. Awesome hair. Awesome body. Cute boyfriend. Goes to High School. Popular.

And even when they try to change it up a bit... the "nerdy" girl, so to speak... I can't really connect with her so much... They never really put any personality into her.. She's almost like a ghost version of Bella Swan (which is saying something.)
