What makes your Vampire story different from the rest?

Okay so I'm not the biggest lover of Vampire stories ( and yet I'm planning on writing one myself - Hypocrite much? O___o It's mainly focused on Hunters though! ) Anyway, occasionally when I am looking for something new to read I find myself stumbling into the Vampire section of Wattpad. Unfortunately the majority of the time all I tend to come across is the same type of stories again and again: Innocent girl meets dark brooding 200 year old Vampire, said Vampire has never loved and will not love and yet, innocent girl seems to make him all warm and fuzzy inside D: In the end the two fall in love and live happily ever after.

What I want to know is in the sea of similar stories that all appear to have the same type of plot and characters etc. How do you make your story different? What do you do to try and keep as as original as you can? What makes you think that people will read your story about a girl who's forced to marry a Vampire when there is probably about five other stories exactly like that on the next page? What makes it stand out?

So far, nothing I don't think lol. What I plan for the story will make it tons original though -- but then again, everyone thinks their story is going to be the unique one that everyone wants to read... Although my story isn't all lovey-dovey like that, some of my vampires are really nice if I do say so myself. Basically, I'm taking a ton of non-vampiric ideas and incorperating vampires into it. Like lucid dreaming, angels and demons, schizo-affective disorder. This one dude (Steffan) is going to play a bunch of mind games on the main character (Amy). So yeah. It'll be fun :)

I love the vampire genre, but yeah, there are cliches all over the place. I can see why people don't give 'em love :,( Send me a message when your vampire story comes out? @crossxmyxheart

Yo! I was thinking about joining the Vampire genre, from the werewolf genre. I don't know much about this side of town, so I was hoping if I give you a small summary you can tell me if it's cliche. If it's not then I'm going to start writing it.

The main character (still working on the names) is a vampire detective. He had ran away from his former life, His vampire family. Anyways one day he finds one of his brethren dead, he thinks nothing of it until more bodies show up. Then his maker shows up and gives him two options. Die like them or save them and get complete amnesty and freedom from the vampire world. Of course he picks the latter, but the catch is. He's a converted one of the weakest line of vampires in the hierarchy and his enemy is someone who is far stronger then he is.

Does that sound like something you'd read? It's going to have zero romance in it.

I have a story, sort of original, although I wouldn't know what is original these days when there must be a story out there with some similar aspects.

Lips of an Evil Angel - story based on a post-apocalyptic world where the Devil has been awakened with his legion of demons and part of the vampire population siding with them. Then there's the angels, with some vampires, creating a group called he Alliance to fight against them. Most humans have been evacuated off onto a safe island while some struggle to survive in the abandoned cities.

Then in comes my main character, Charlotte, one bad ass half blood (Angel and vampire). She's ruthless, cold and with a short temper. She might appear as the villain in ways she behaves but somewhere, deep inside of her there is some hope of sincerity hidden behind her stone heart. She's pretty much the protagonist, going through character developments, adventure and meeting all sorts of bad guys. There's a lot of action, bloody scenes, hints of humour and romance along the lines.

Summary Vampires were known to humanity for just a couple of years, but was it for a reason? Suddenly vampires are starting to become terribly sick and as that sickness progresses the vampires die, actually die. The good thing for humanity is that this sickness only affects vampires. Although They do have a cure for this unknown vampiric plague only a chosen few know. She is their savior.

Whenever I write a monster that has such a large history in pop culture, I try to come at it from a slightly different direction or toy with the mythology in some unexpected, non-traditional way.

For instance, for my YA vampire serial BLEEDER (http://www.wattpad.com/story/856099-bleeder), I completely reworked most of the vampiric folklore as people have come to know it. Mine still drink blood and are sensitive to sunlight, but they are not undead. Instead they are more of a parasitic, subterranean species that live apart from human culture in their own society with its own rules, using humans as not much more than cattle. I also changed up the biology of how vampires are made, and where they originally came from.

The thing I love most about the classic archetypes/monsters is all the creative versatility they can afford you if you are not afraid to think out of the box and take risks. There is no one set way a vampire, werewolf or zombie has to be, the only limit is your imagination.

@puppluv - Lucid dreaming and mind games? You're right it does sound fun :P One nice Vampire is fine, but a book full of them I don't think I could stand. I prefer my Vampires to rip throats out and crush skulls to get what they want O__o Mindless killing in order to survive. It's their natural instinct so why wouldn't they act that way.. D: And sure I'll send you a message when my story is up :) although I'm still planning it - in other words procrastinating terribly! :| haha. Like I said in my first message it's about Vampire Hunters [ Lol come to think of it even mine doesn't sound all too original ] and it's set during 1908 - 1910 :) I'm not the best writer there is but hopefully it'll give something new to the people who read it?

@KidLupe - I'm not judge and jury when it comes to what people should write in their stories. It really is up to you. From your summary though it does sound like something that I'd probably read. A vampire detective sounds cool and it's something that personally I have yet to come across in a story. If you were to write it, I'd most likely give it a read :)

@Unrealistic_Dreamer - I'll admit I'm not really into Angels/Demons, but Charlotte seems like a kick ass character and I like strong female leads in stories haha. So yeah I'd be willing to give it a chance I guess :)

@Unrealistic_Dreamer Well, now you've got me curious (and I usually don't do angels either). Have you ever heard of author Nalini Singh? She does an interesting series involving angels and vampires that's both surprisingly violent and gory, and surprisingly erotic.

@KidLupe *claps.mp3* I'm not into detective or mystery, but yours sound so original even if it's about vampires :').

@Unrealistic_Dreamer I hate to disagree and to say things that might hurt feelings, but I think (I just think, my own personal opinion and noting else) that your character sounds like a Mary-Sue. It might be not the clichéd "love" vampire-and-silly-human story, but in overall still sounds kind of cheesy. Of course, I haven't read your story, so I can be wrong. Again: sorry if I hurt your feelings.

@crossxmyxheart I'm writing a story about hunters also. Dang it ):. And I won't reveal anything else *tries hard to not to give away that much information*.

Long story short: It's about this guy called Jonathan, an illegal immigrant in the US who one day, after a hedious night in the pub, discovers a girl from his biology class and another guy fighting against a thing that seemed like a zombie. Thanks to this he gets enrolled in Stigma, an organization in charge of killing any kinds of humanoids (vampires, mermaids, werewolves...) or creatures that are not from this dimension (Elves, faries, chimeras...). As he said once: "A Men in Black and Immigration Cops smash-up".

Stills on development stage (drafting and editing), and I'm not willing to reveal the specific reasons why he ended up there, or the reasons why he's not trying to scape. I can say I invested a lot of time with trying to make the creatures look "realistic", like something that could exist on this world, treating vampirism like a medical condition and stuff (is urban fantasy, after all; a little of Sci-Fi-Spirit coating is not a bad thing).

Please not sugar-coating. If you find it bored, cliché, cheesy, f*cked up, yadda-yadda, you're free to tell. But if you find it interesting I won't be mad, at all ;D.

@Mimicke My character is flawed, with a history of problems which have moulded her into what she is. She is not all powerful as she seems, but the pain carried within her heart gives her that condescending attitude towards those around her. She is not all powerful or loved by all the characters included in my story. This is my defence to your "mary-sue" opinion.

Before reading The Hunger Games, I thought Katniss was a Mary-Sue, and I found out she's a very balanced character actually (I mean, "kick-ass", but not a "super-sayan").

It's different from the rest (or so I hope so, took me bloody ages to write). It's about a young girl named Krista who is the daughter of two very powerful celebrities. They're practically fed up with her so they send her to school for the first time where she meets a very bitter vampire named Frost. All he wants to do is kill her.

You find out the vampires are going extinct in the world and that they're generally friendly with werewolves. The enemies are what you'd call 'revenants' or to those who don't know: dead spirits i.e. ghosts.

Krista, the protagonist, is something different, something Frost has never met before. For one, she's great at everything she does, she gloes at random times, she has one hell of a temper, and for another, she's hiding a huge secret too.

And, for once, it doesn't end with a happily every after, pretty much the opposite.

@Mimicke Thanks! It's not so much a detective story as it is an excuse for me to get extremely gory. I'm going to use this story as a way to explore the darker and more gruesome side of the vampires. The side that rarely gets explored now days, what with this craze going on.

I actually started a few chapters, but I'm going to wait till I get half-ways done before I upload anything. :D
