I need to know if anyone on here besides me likes fairy tale twists. Where you take a fairy tale that everyone knows and turn it skiwonkus. Or at least tweak it a little bit. I am writing a rapunzel twist that is definitely skiwonkus. It's called The Girl Born From Blood, but it's not attracting any readers. So. Am I the only one who likes twist? |

I love those kind of stories! You take a really babyish and boring, say, princess story, and turn it into something TOTALLY AWESOME. Are you writing one? |

@Aoterroa Yeah I'm writing one. It's a twist of rapunzel. Instead of waiting around for her prince in the tower,(I hate those kind of princesses) she goes out and tries to make sense of her life. You should check it out. It's called: The Girl Born From Blood |

I don't really like regular fairy tales like that so...... what the heck I will give it a try. It sounds interesting and I would love to see how you changed the story up! |

I actually adore fairy tale twists, Neil Gaimen wrote a twist of Snow white, where she is a vampire it was amazing. not to mention that I'm working on one myself using several fairytales. its called "the path of emptiness". |

@Thedealer521 And he wrote it to prove a point; that fairy tales are a very valid and powerful type of story telling :-) Taking things that are well known and making people look at them differently is always fun. Best of luck |

@fauxpunker, but not only that but their interpretation is up to the reader. Snow white could have very well been the villain, her lips as red as blood. so to speak who says she couldn't be a vampire? It was a very interesting way view the old fairy tale we grew up with. But yeah I think your very much right. |

@Thedealer521 Gaiman's such a good example though. He's done a fun little twist with Sherlock Holmes, too. Combines Holmes with the C'thulhu mythos. Good stuff. I'll stop though before I just turn this into a Gaiman rave-fest |

@fauxpunker oh yeah we have to stop at that point, I'm way too intrigued Gaimen is one of my favorite authors so I have to admit this conversation would go very far. But returning to twists in fairytales. |

Snow white the bad guy? GENIUS!! Here's a stupid little idea, but what about Little Red Riding Hood being a huntress, actually out to kill the wolf, and he tricks her into going after a different wolf? Granny would be a werewolf, THE werewolf. Grandmother=werewolf=wolf. It's stupid, but if anyone likes it they can use it. |

@creativecat oh yes they actually have quite a few ideas like that one example might be the recent film, red riding hood. Where the father was a were wolf and the grandmother was actually suspect to being a which. |
