I've gone to a Christian school since I was in Kindgergarten and I've grown up in a Christian home. Only once have I ever doubted my faith. I felt really lost because everyone around me spoke about their intimate relationship with Christ. I felt like I wasn't at that stage yet and questioned whether or not I was truly a believer. Long story short, I spoke to one of my teachers and cleared that up. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or has ever doubted their faith and what you did to overcome it? If you are not a Christian, I prefer that you don't attempt to degrade any of these comments. Thank you. |

@HonorsKid Everyone has thoughts of doubt. They are put there by Satan. As you grow closer to God, Satan will fight harder with you. Remember he is a defeated foe. People battle with spiritual pride too (its just part of spiritual development.) Don’t be surprised when others try to make it look like they are hearing from God and having conversations with Him. Don’t get discouraged. We Christians want to see visions and hear from God so sometimes we tell other people that we hear from him when in fact we are hearing from Satan. It may be hard to determine however, God will always agree with His word. The Holy Spirit is real and He lives within us. The more we read and study Gods word & meditate on His word the closer we are to God. Frankly, I have not had God speak to me in a clear distinct manor except when I am reading my bible. But the Holy Spirit teaches me things everyday…inward witness. God Bless You as you grow with him. |

Christmas, 2010. I asked God to levitate something, he didn't. A few months afterwards, I read parts of the bible, and began disagreeing with them. I found more and more flaws in Christianity, so I stopped being a Christain. |

@Improbable_Heart Sorry to hear that. I know you probably don't want to hear this but... You know what’s really funny? The fact that everyone forgets the fact that God is a…you guessed it! He’s the GOD of the universe. He is not our magic genie who will magically give us whatever we want. He will do whatever He wants (for our good) and who are we to question it? I’ve found that when I pray for Him to help me our guide me, it does not happen overnight, or for months, or even years! However, sometimes, it is immediate. God answers prayers and sometimes we just assume that He doesn’t hear them because we don’t get the answer we want. First of all, the Bible is God’s word and is not something for you to agree or disagree with. It is something that you will either believe (key word: believe) or not believe. You have obviously chosen the latter. These “flaws” that you speak of may appear like flaws to you, but I think that if you attempted to look into them, you would figure out why they appear that way, but are not actually flaws. I hope that you find your faith again, and I'll pray for you! |

Thanks for the prayer I guess. My change in religon might be tricky to explain, so you'll have to wait until I get a new laptop charger. |

@Improbable_Heart I asked God to show me a shooting star, and He did. Then I had doubt in my heart and thought that it must have been a coincidence. So, I asked God to do it again, and He did but I still didnt believe... Sounds like the story (in the bible) of Gideon. Who asked for a sign & then when he got one, he asked for another sign. The bible says that an evil generation will ask for a sign and He will not provide one. God does not jump through hoops like a circus dog. Once I got out of the place in my life...needing a sign. God began to show up everywhere. |

When I asked, I didn't expect anything to happen, it was just that afterwards I looked at Christianity from an unbiased point of view, and I didn't find any reason to believe in Christ. |

@Improbable_Heart Life or death? (seems like a pretty good reason to believe for me.) |

It certainly is a good reason, but there is still nothing that makes the Christain creation story more likely than others. |

@HonorsKid and @Improbable_Heart When I was younger I too was shown the bible and told that this belief was the only way forward. My faith was always on the edge. Then, one day, I was eight I believe, I started to ask questions and delve deeper into the actual stories inside the bible. The questions I asked could not be answered properly all I got was vague responses and the stories I read had so may loopholes I couldn't understand how I had believed in this for so long. My faith wavered and eventually disappeared. I am not saying this to say that your beliefs are wrong and mine are right - i'm simply saying that 'belief' is strong enough for some people to base their life on it it yet for others more solid proof is needed. |

Everyone doubt sometimes. Whatever reasons that are behind the doubt... it happens, but it is possible to get through. Sometimes it seems so dark, but we should think of it like "its always darkestbefore dawn". Anyway i know i been in some dark points in my life and dont want to go back, but i know it will happen. There is a reason for it probably. Doubts might be the same? What caused your doubts honors? |

I too have questions about my faith, because I do a-level science which has evidence and contradicts what it written in the bible. The only doubt I have is the reasoning behind why I believe in the bible. I don't want to be scared into believing with the threat of hell, I want my belief to be because I know that the teachings of God are the way I should live my life. I'm also a teenager which makes things so much harder because I'm surrounded by atheists and people sleeping around and such. But I know that I could never be that way because that is not how I'm supposed to act and that it not the plan God has for me. |

When I was younger, I was brought up to believe that God is real and the Bible is right but as I grew older I had my doubts, wondering if God was real. So I researched, I looked up reasons why God wouldn't or would be real. I read the bible more closely and I realized that, in my opinion, it is full of contradictories. Now we have different opinions and yours might not be the same as mine. I never, even since a child had God ever replied to me as I prayed and that might be a reason. I then soon just stopped believing in God, not that I'm saying I dont believe there are Gods. I just dont believe in the christian religion so now I'm an agnostic but more leaning towards the non-believing side. I needed proof, something that wasn't given. |

I do have doubts, like I know he can't do everything we want, or have everything our way. But like as a Christian I was born up to love god and everything, don't do sins and etc. but it's a kind of natural thing to break rules. Now lately I have been wondering if I'm a true believer or not. Like I know the ten commandments but I still break some of those rules. And I'm not that much a person to pray every night—I know it's a good thing and I should do it, but a lot of things I've been doing lately brings me wondering if I'm a true believer or not. I know I'm more of a christian than some people, but at the same time I'm not all that goody holy person. Do you get what I mean? And a repose to Hardy_Boyz I think that is the reason why we all have doubts. |

everyone would come to a point where they would question their faith.. it is just how it is.. but at the end of the day, it is about whether you still believe or not.. questioning your faith is not bad as it may seems.. it is just how human natures reacts to things we don't know and control.. and I just want to share my favorite quotation of all: "the greatest test of faith is when we don't receive what we want but we are still able to say 'thank you Lord!'" :) |
