I'm in a bit of strife at the moment. I have a novel (not on Wattpad) which I would like to have traditionally published. But I have also been considering other options, such as, self publishing. I guess what I really want to know is it safe to post it on Wattpad for a period of time (or even parts of it) to a) help with plot, corrections etc. b) see if I will have a readership. Once I have finished my research I will remove it, no matter which option I decide to choose. Help please? Thanks in advance. :) |

@Pranxtor This is "how long is a piece of string". Some publishers have no problem with you posting first drafts on Wattpad, others wouldn't touch a book which has been in published on a publically accessible website. If you are going to self-publish, it doesn't matter, it's your decision. Wattpad is not always a good place to see if a story will be popular. People tend to look at the What's Hot list, and not notice new stories which may be higher quality. And the quality of feedback is not high. Most of it consists of "post more" or nothing at all. It's rare to get useful comments on your use of English or your hero's motivation etc. |

@Pranxtor If you want to know if your novel works as far as plot, characters, and such, find out if there's a writers' group in your area composed of authors who write in the same genre as you do. If the members are published authors, so much the better. If there isn't one, try to start one. Otherwise, I agree with @Ctyolene; Wattpad is so-so as far as critiquing goes. |

@Ctyolene @RobertLCollins Thanks for the advice. :) I'm make sure I think about it hard before I make my decision. In the meantime I still have lots of editing to do. |
