1. There will be a total of 16 contestants. Each round there will be 5 contestants eliminated. 15 contestants will be eliminated over 3 rounds, leaving one winner!
2. In each round, there will be 8 images. You must include 4 images within the story. The images must help make up a part of your story, not just mentioned in passing.
3. You will have 2 weeks to write your story after the pictures have been posted. The due date will be posted. There will be no late entries accepted.
4. Entries must be a minimum of 3500 words, 7000 words being the maximum.
5. No graphic sex scenes or highly offensive material within the entries.
6. There will be a week between rounds for judging. At the end of the week, 5 entries will be eliminated, and 8 more images will be posted for the next round. -

Judges must be willing to dedicate 9 weeks to this project.
Each entry will be scored out of 30, the lowest 5 scores being eliminated.
Scoring: 10 points possible for storyline/originality Then 10 points for Characterization/voice/storytelling then.. um. 5 points for grammar/spelling/ and 5 points for use of images and adherence to contest rules.

Joined: 2011-09-03Posts: 22851 year agoJust letting people know that this contest is still on. Myself and @definitiondestiny are just a little busy with life at the moment. If @defintiondestiny doesn't return by the time we have enough folks signed up, I will be hosting this contest.
I was hoping to be able to participate, but with things going on in my life, I doubt that will be possible anyway.
Oh, and for those who wonder why I'm posting this information, it's because @speculativethoughts is a shared, secondary account of mine.

The smackdowns are a fun and fabulous challenge, even if you don't win. Trust me. ^_^
The challenge of choosing 4 images from 8 and using them in a story that you have to finish with a very short deadline is a great motivation to produce some really interesting works. @crazydaydreamer

@SpeculativeThoughts Okay, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do everything in time though because I'm usually busy, but I have spring break next week and according to many of my teachers school sort of winds down after that, so hopefully I can.

@crazydaydreamer You are on the list for right now. I'll check back again to see if you're still up to it when we get closer to having a full list. Hopefully you'll have time! You do get a week rest period between each round, and 2 weeks is actually a pretty decent amount of time. Most smackdowns I've seen only give you 1 week to write the story.

@iamheresoareyou No problem, we wont need anyone to judge until much later. We have to wait until we have 16 contestants, and then we'll need you to judge 3 rounds, each round is 2 weeks with 1 week to judge.

@Shikkui - well let us know before all the spots fill. It is a commitment, so join only if you feel you're up to the challenge. It's always a bummer when people drop out.
Just so you know, I did a 4 round smackdown, and you had only a week to complete your works. I created some of my best writing during that competition. (on my other account, that is) It's loads of fun, but not easy!

@SpeculativeThoughts I entered a different Smack Down a few weeks ago. Waiting on the results for that. But in that contest, the max was 5000 words.

@Shikkui - oh, was that the short sci fi smackdown in the pub? I remember that, but I was still working through the Horror smackdown, and was bummed I couldn't try it, though SciFi is a little out of my range.
