Not death exactly, but what's after it, the unknown? For each individual the answer will vary, but that's why i would like to know, especially for an atheist, or a hindu. Personally I am not scared of death, unless it's unexpected. That's why I hate crossing roads :P |

@Robinn I am intrigued by it, I would like to know what the afterlife is like, if it exists. |

@Improbable_Heart So what do you think will happen once you die since you don't believe in an after life? And what about the meaning of life, or was that just bullshit, and that the real purpose of life is that there is NO purpose whatsoever? |

@Robinn I believe the afterlife is a possibility, if it does exist the purpose of life is to try and be morally perfect. If it does not, there is no purpose. |

@Improbable_Heart One need not to be morally perfect, it depends on one's belief. How can there be no purpose?? That just seems pitiful. It seems that's the agenda of scientist to convince us that the creation of the universe was an accident, and our very existence was an accident. I just want to point out, there is no such thing as a planned accident. |

It is a very noble idea , the existence of a higher power albeit a convenient one, because it gives our lives meaning , also gives us some hope. but if we remove all that and just shut out society and culture and just ponder our existence. I think the most probable possibility is that we are one colossal coincidence. I find that to be a bit more likely than an invisible man up in the sky , or even a protective force. it's a bleak concept ,but in my mind a very possible one. |

@SilenceDogood Convenient how? How is it convenient to have a higer power-which in this case is God. Life would be convenient if we didn't have a higher power dictating our actions and at the time of death paying the price for them. And what do you mean give meaning to our lives? How does one ususally give meaning to their life when they believe in the existence of a higher being? Most just live their life obeying God, fine, how do they obey God, one such way is to love thy neighbor and to help others. Don't the people who don't believe in the existence of a higher being do this aswell? And I don't think it's very scientific to believe in coincedences. Ofcourse if the other option was God then it's no suprise that coincedences take the upper hand :| |

@Robinn As I see it, without a deity, you get nothing out of life. |

@Improbable_Heart Likewise. Right now my purpose is to learn, and to help others on their way to the quest of wisdom *dundundun* |

@Robinn Not really, if there is one purpose in life then more than one person is likely to realise it. |

@Improbable_Heart That was just one purpose, I'm sure it will vary according to person, and that comment was my lame attempt at joking :P OK in all seriousness though, what is your purpose in life, or is that too personal of a question? |

@Robinn It is not at all too personal. My purpose in life is to be morally perfect, which I believe can be achieved through knowledge. |

@Improbable_Heart Really? I thought with knowledge you gain power and with power you eventually become corrupted. |

@Robinn With knowledge I can avoid corruption. Besides only some become corrupted with power, it does not apply to everyone. |

@Robinn What happens after death? Yes, I'd say I was frightened. The idea that after you died that you'd fade into nothingness is scary. But, I'm not sure if that will happen. Sometimes I wonder what really happens when you die. Do you go to heaven or hell? Are you reborn as another person, completely unaware of it? I think in a way, most people are afraid or at least hesitant to find out. Really, who wants to die? |

I don't know if I'm scared or not. But I do know this: If God does exists then, in my opinion, once we die that should be the end. Nothing would come after. Let me explain. I know Heaven is suppose to be paradise and stuff but if somebody you love goes to Hell, wouldn't it be more like a prison? I know we're suppose to love God more than anybody else and He can make us happy but love is love no matter the amount. I always thought in Heaven you would be able to recognise the souls of the people you love…I'm sorry if this makes no sense. I'm not exactly sure how to phrase my feelings towards death. I guess I'm not scared of death but scared of being separated from those I love. |

@Robinn I think I agree completely with @BenjiHeartsYou and probably @Mystified-Soul. I'm not a religious person, but I believe in the possibility of something beyond our control. Fate, God, Karma, all those things are a possible for me. But afterwards, I have no clue. I hope that there's more to death than nothingness, but I guess you can't know until then, huh? |

@QuietlyAnonymous Don't you think nothingness is the true meaning of Rest in Peace? No more living, no more pain, just the peace you receive when something comes to an end. Well, I guess I'm a little weird thinking like that. |

@Mystified-Soul When you put it like that it doesn't sound too bad, but look at it like this: You will never see the ones you lost so painfully like you hoped. you would never know what became of everything you left behind, never be with your special someone again. The way you put nothingness sounds quite amazing, but isn't that still a bit unfair? Would you be happy with that kind of "existence" if it was called that? I'm not saying that I particularly believe that when you die you will live in Paradise, the perfect world, always happy, or Hell for that matter because all that seems a bit too far-fetched. But I at least hope for a bit more, you know? I don't know, it's a really confusing subject, but I do see your point and you aren't weird at all. |

@QuietlyAnonymous @Mystified-Soul The thing about nothingness is exactly that, you will be nothing. There is no rest in peace. If it's like that when you die then you simply seize to exist. No pain, no peace, no anything anymore. You wouldn't even be able to be sad because there would be nothing left of you. That is what nothingness means, being nothing. |
