There were three Bronte's, and only one of them was any good and that was Charlotte. Jane versus Charlotte is close, but Jane wrote six great novels and Charlotte wrote one. So, Jane. I gotta' back my girl. |

Jane Austen, without a doubt. I really dislike both intensely (we studied "Jane Eyre" at school, and I still can't get over how much it annoyed me), but I have to say that "Pride and Prejudice" is a great novel. However, Austen has a tendency to give the reader a good snippet of useful information and then waste about twenty pages on nothing; but she does write some incredibly clever and funny stuff. The Brontës (though I have to say I've only read "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights" (and not even all of the latter)) just don't impress me. Their way of writing is completely exaggerated, and even if that was the style of the day I just don't like it; I mean, in "Wuthering Heights" about seventeen pages are wasted on the girl getting out of bed, looking out of the window and saying, "Oh, I can see Wuthering Heights!" when she clearly can't. I've got nothing against either of them, but Jane Austen is the clear winner. |

I haven't read any of Emily Bronte's books. I just started Charlotte's Jane Eyre and adore it. However, I will always love Jane Austen. However, I might prefer Ms. Bronte once I finish Jane Eyre. . . |

Um....I'm a tiny bit biased on the subject, if my username didn't tip you off on that, but even though I will admit I love Jane Eyre (Haven't read Wuthering Heights yet, intend to check out the library's copy when it's returned.) my vote is for Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility has to be my favorite book of all time, even though Pride and Prejudice is a verrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy close second. |

I would have to say the Bronte sisters I love Jane Austin, but the Bronte books really spark me as creative genius. Not saying Jane Austin isn't a creative genius but the Bronte books are unique in their own way. |

The Bronte sisters! Because I love ALL their books. True, they haven't written as many as Jane Austen. But all their books have this charm...And even though, I love Pride and Prejudice (I have like 3 copies of that book), I am gonna go with with the Bronte sisters on this one. |

Oh, I must confess absolutely adore Austen. In fact, I'm in the midst of falling head over heels in love with Mr Darcy again. As for Brontë, like what someone else in the thread had said so aptly, I couldn't care much for Edward Rochester, try as I might. But I admit that Charlotte's style of writing, was to me, much more interesting than Jane's as the latter often had the propensity to narrate far too much. I loved the descriptions in Jane Eyre, but I disliked them in Wuthering Heights. The aristocratic language of characters in Pride and Prejudice enamored me, and for that I must cast my vote for Jane Austen! Long live her anachronistic verbiage! |

I only like Charlotte from the Brontë sisters... so I have to go with Austen! They're both the authoresses of some of my favourite books (Jane Eyre, Northanger Abbey, Sense and Sensibility) though! |
