My head snapped up just in time to hear a screech of tires and see a car flying out of control…right towards me.
The tires screeched and at that moment my life didn’t flash before my eyes actually the only thought was if I left the candle burning in my room or not. I barely had time to close my eyes. But it didn’t happen. I felt the hot ground hit the side of my body but felt no blood. I slowly opened my eyes to reveal a very concerned looking Grayson.
“Are you okay?” He asked out of breath, both of our chests rising with the rapid pace of our hearts.
“Yeah, I think so just a little winded and my adrenalin is through the roof.” The person in the car rushed out.
“Young lady are you okay?” The man asked clearly he was thinking I might sue.
“Yes I am because of my…friend here who saved me.” I told the disgruntled man.
Grayson jumped in. “We were just leaving. Come on my car is over there.” Grayson said pointing to it. Should I be stubborn or should I let him help me just this once?
“Just take me home please.” I sighed, finally starting to settle a bit.
He started the car. My heart beat quickened. What if a car slid into us! What if I got hit and someone could save me—or Grayson! He must have seen the look on my face. He touched my arm I flinched slightly. But he tried again.
“Shh its okay calm down I’m here don’t worry your safe with me.” He whispered in my ear.
“Im good, really please just drive.” I told him a tear escaped from my eye, the side he couldn’t see.
“I don’t believe you.” He told me as he repositioned himself into his seat to drive.
I laughed. “Of course you don’t.”
He didn’t reply he just drove I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t realize that we were in my driveway. I got out soundlessly. I heard his door open hastily and him walk over to me.
He engulfed me in his arms. I cried.
“I thought I was going to die, and all I could think about was whether or not I blew out a stupid candle!” I chocked out. He chuckled.
“Is now a bad time to ask if you but could you explain what happened with Kyle?”
“Sure just let me get changed, plus I need hot tea.” I walked up the stairs slowly taking everything in not wanting to forget anything. I changed into a sweatshirt and some yoga pants and florescent colored socks; I threw my hair into a messy bun and headed towards the kitchen to find Grayson making me tea. Well that’s sweet. I sat down at the table and told him everything, Grayson tried to interrupt me about fifty times and each time I kicked him under the table with a smile on my face.
“Look Grayson now that you know everything I think you should leave.” I told him. I kept my voice as even a possible.
“But— You…”
“Grayson please just leave.”
“Nevaeh I promise that I will make everything up to you and I will win you back!” His face was so determined that I had no doubt in my mind that he wasn’t telling the truth.
“Bye Grayson.”
“Bye…I lo—“
“Nevaeh are you in here?” Kyle.
“I’m in here.” I called to him. Oh please don’t let there be a fight.
“Where were you after school I couldn’t find you?” He walked in and saw Grayson and narrowed his eyes.
“What the hell are you doing with her?” Kyle said angry.
“We were just talking.” I told him. We were…nothing more.
“Yeah so leave.” Grayson told him. Why does he have to instigate!
“No.” Kyle said with authority in his voice.
“Do we really want to start this again Kyle?” Grayson asked defiantly.
“I think we do.” Kyle replied with equal defiance. What the heck do I get no say in this!?
