Holding my breath I balanced on a velvet foot stool as a seamstress raised the hem of my long elegant white morning dress. The Prince’s wife does not wear garments such as jeans and vest tops. When I had asked for my clothes from last night Dante had produced them then dramatically cast them into the fire. He then called in the seamstress who was waiting outside with several Victorian style dresses that needed to be fitted. Dante lounged in a large arm chair by the fire reading his newspaper as my clothes were being fitted. I couldn’t see him from behind his large newspaper but I could imagine the insufferable grin he had on his face. He had after all tricked me into marrying him.

The seamstress whipped a measuring tape around my waist and muttered some measurements to herself. I remained quiet and still, I had a lot to think about. The raven, the fox, the dragon king, Dante, and the dead. What had happened all those years ago? Was I really responsible for the loss of innocent lives. I glanced over to Dante and read the headlines, ‘132 GOBLINS DEAD IN UNPROVOKED DRAGON ATTACK’.

Did I do that?

Was that my fault?

The bedroom door opened abruptly without any warning and a short fat man wearing a monocle wandered in. He took one look at me and in deep pompous voice boomed,

“Who the devil are you?”

“Lord Manfred, have you met my wife?” Dante murmured from behind the newspaper.

“Wife? Why the devil have you gone and got one of those?” Lord Manfred grunted turning his attention on Dante.

“I thought marriage would suit me.” Dante replied cooly.

Lord Manfred made a grunting noise and glanced back at me, “What does a fine young vampire blue blood want to be saddled with a- with a..” Lord Manfred squinted at me, “What the blazes is she?” he spat.

“Unique.” Dante replied.

“I can see that but what the devil is she- are you sure you should have married her? We could have put her in your collection.”

“Lord Manfred, I will feed you to my collection if you continue to insult my wife.”

Lord Manfred paled and respectfully bowed to me, “No offense intended your highness,” He said stiffly before turning back to Dante, “The Goblin Mayor is here to see you about the incident with the dragons.”

“Tell him it is my wedding day and I am not seeing anyone.” Dante waved dismissively.

“He has lost a hundred men, highness.”

Piping up I said, “You should go, Dante.”

Dante dropped his newspaper and gave me a cold stare. Obviously he wanted his wife to be seen but not heard but if he wanted that he shouldn’t have married me. Continuing I said,

“In difficult times we need to offer our love and support to one another.”

Dante raised an eye brow, “You want me to offer my love and support to Thag the Merciless, slayer of a thousand virgins?”

“Okay- maybe not.” I said.

Lord Manfred cleared his throat, “We should pacify the Thag by giving him a present from one of your collection.”

“Excellent idea.” Dante replied.

“What is your collection?” I asked curiously.

“I collect dragons.” Dante said.

“Like figurines?”

“No like real fire breathing dragons.”

I blinked. Real dragons. He collected real dragons for a hobby. I wanted to what a real dragon looked like. Dante read my expression and shook his head,
