Chapter 14

Three days later I sat in class with Lyla talking about Neil. The Chemistry teacher who was always punctual still hadn’t arrived so everyone in the class was using the opportunity to goof off.

“I can’t believe he’s still not talking to you, he’s so immature!” Lyla was saying to me.

I had told her about following Neil into the woods and how he’d reacted when I’d confronted him about it afterwards, but I failed to mention the white wolf or even the fact that I had been on trial. Some secrets were your own to keep.

I sighed; “It’s partially my fault though, I should have tried talking to him more about it, I mean she is the love of his life after all.”

I looked to the far end of the room. Neil had even moved from his seat beside me to sit as far away from me as possible. The last time I had been in a situation like this, was in kindergarten.

He really was being childish but I had to apologize to him. I couldn’t help but feel like it was my fault why he’d started hanging out with Steven and his friends. Oh yeah I guess I forgot to mention that part. He spent pretty much all his free time with the jerks and who knew what kind of trouble they were getting into. Oh wait, I did;

I winced as a felt the familiar stab of discomfort along my spine. This morning as I’d stood at my locker, Steven had walked up to me and slammed me into it, laughed and walked off, with Steven trailing behind him. He hadn’t even had the decency to look at me.

At the moment he had his head down on his desk and I felt another nudge of guilt because Carson had seen when Steven had done what he did and as the group of them had tried to walk pass him, Carson had punched him right in the face, just like that, boy had I been impressed. Then he’d taken Neil aside and said something to him. I wasn’t sure what exactly, but from the droop in Neil’s shoulders, it couldn’t have been good.

I sighed again.

“That was nothing for him to act that way over, that would be putting you at risk, he was selfish to ask you that.” Lyla said, for once her face was serious,

“Will everyone settle down please, settle down, settle down.” I heard the principal’s voice and reluctantly turned away from her to look to the front of the class and boy did my heart go on a race track.

I looked over at Lyla who was now looking at me, a grin spread wide on her face. I couldn’t even form a coherent thought, I just shifted my gaze once more to the front of the class.

“Mrs. Reid  won’t be back for a while, apparently she has other things to take care of…at this time of the year,” the principal went on, he was clearly not impressed with Mrs. Reid’s lack of consideration ; “but fortunately, Mr. Sage here stepped in at the right time so he will be your substitute until she gets back.” He announced.

Then looked at his watch and turned and walked out of the class, leaving Mr. Tall dark and Sexy standing there, his gaze roaming the faces before him, to land on mine. He smiled  and I could have sworn half the female population of the class sighed in pleasure.

Just like the first two times I had seen him, he was dressed in all black, only this time he wasn’t in a full suit but just looking at his attire, any amateur could see that, those clothes weren’t something a person could afford of a teacher’s salary. Family money maybe?

“Good morning class, as your principal already told you, I’m Mr. sage, but I do think it’s terribly boring so you can all just call me Lucas.” His heavily accented voice sent shivers down my spine. It sounded like British mixed with…Italian? and damn if it wasn’t dipped in honey because the rich sound was sweet on the ears.
