During my lunch break the next day, Danielle and I ended up shopping to do some retail therapy. With an extra hour tacked onto my usual thirty minute lunch break, Danielle dragged me into a quaint yet thoroughly risqué lingerie boutique.

"Dani," I pulled back from her grasp as her freshly manicured hand reached for the door. "No." I state firmly.

"Oh come on," she pouted. "I know you're planning on telling Logan everything, but you're still spending the weekend with him."

"What point are you getting at?"

"I know you love him," she pulled me into the boutique. "And I also know that since you and Logan have been dating, you've been the happiest I've ever seen you in a while."

I take in my surroundings feeling like I was in way over my head which – which I absolutely was. I listen to what Danielle was saying and I hated that she was right. I did love Logan, but I couldn't keep living with myself if I kept up this lie. I just couldn't keep lying to him like this or the guilt would absolutely just consume me from the inside out.

"Just humor me, okay?" she pleaded.

I knew I was fighting a losing battle so I simply nod my head while saying, "Okay."

When I got back to the office after spending a majority of my lunch break trying on various pieces of lingerie, I find myself walking toward my desk just as Mr. Prescott was walking out of one of the conference rooms.

"Bailey, there you are!" Ivan exclaimed with a genuine smile on his face. "How was your lunch break?"

"It was good," I said while trying to plaster a smile on my face trying to look as genuine as possible.

"I'm glad to hear it. Bailey, could you come back to my office. I would like to have a word with you."

Hearing that piqued my interest as I set my purse down underneath my desk and followed Mr. Prescott back to his office. Once we were situated in his office – me in a leather chair that sat across from his desk and him in his chair – he focused his eyes on me.

"So I spent the past hour and a half interviewing applicants."

I knew I had a bad poker face because I probably looked like a combination of both fear and shock. "Applicants for what, I didn't know we were looking for new employees."

"Things are about to change," he told me as I felt as if my heart felt like it had lodged itself into my throat. "Bailey, the applicants I've been interviewing are applicants who applied for your job."

I felt like my heart stop beating, like my feet had been swept out from underneath me. "Mr. Prescott, if it's about the –" he held up his hand, signaling me to stop talking.

"Bailey, I was looking to hire someone to replace you because I was looking to promote you. You're bright, sharp, highly intelligent, and a dedicated – not to mention diligent – worker."

"I don't know what to say, sir." And I was being completely honest; this was surprising news to me.

"I know what you're thinking," he relaxed into his chair. "You're probably thinking that I'm promoting you because of Logan and our agreement, but rest assured I'm not. I remember when you first walked into this building and interviewed to join my team. I hired you right on the spot that same day because I knew you were special. Now here we are four years later and I couldn't ask for a better right hand woman."

I nodded my head and smiled. "I'd be honored, Mr. Prescott."

"I thought we talked about you calling me 'Mr. Prescott'." He joked.

"I know," I looked down at my hands. "I just want to keep things professional. You're not just my boyfriend's father, you're also my boss."

"Of course," he smiled as he stood up, holding his hand out for me to shake.

Taking his hand in mine, I firmly shake his hand. "I promise I won't let you down."

"I know you won't," he replied. "I understand you and my son are going away for the weekend," he adjusted his tie as we walked toward the door. "You can clock out early and go home. I'll be emailing you something next week with your new schedule."

"I'm looking forward to it," I say as he walks me out of his office and to the front desk – my old desk. While retrieving my purse from under the desk, I express my thanks to Mr. Prescott one last time before pressing the call button for the elevator.

Kicking the door to my apartment closed, I dig around in my purse to pick up my phone that had started to ring when I was fumbling around with my keys while trying to unlock my door.

"Hello?"

"Hey Love, how was work?"

I smile and set my bag down on the counter while I kick the stiletto heels off of my feet. "Work was good! Are you still picking me up later?" I ask even though I already knew the answer.

"Of course, Love. I wouldn't miss out on spending a week with you. I'll be over in two hours unless you need more time to pack?"

"No," I said while fishing the black and white striped bag that held the lingerie I had bought earlier with Danielle out of my purse to pack away into my luggage that had been packed since late last night. "I'm just about done packing if you want to come earlier?"

"Sounds good," Logan stayed quiet for a few moments before saying, "I love you Bailey."

Without thinking and with no hesitation I finally say the words that I had kept bottled inside me. "I love you, too."

I hung up the phone after Logan told me he'd be over in about an hour. I felt the guilt in me telling me that I shouldn't have said it, but I honestly couldn't stop myself from telling him how I truly feel. I know I'm going to tell him about the agreement that I have with his father, but maybe not just yet. I was in way too deep and I knew that there was no digging my way out of the situation I had put myself in.

Sorry for the short filler of an update, but I didn't want to leave everyone hanging much longer. I know I said I'd post an update by Christmas, but that clearly didn't happen and I'm so, so sorry! I haven't been doing much this break and I've had all this time for writing, but I haven't really been utilizing it which I know I'll regret because once I go back to school I know I'm going to fall off the grid again. I'm slowly getting inspiration to use to update my stories and I hope I can keep this momentum going! Thank you for those of you who still read my stories even though my updates are sporadic and thank you for your support and votes. "Paid to Please Him" is current #933 in General Fiction and I couldn't be any happier! Thank you so much you guys, it really means a lot! Wishing you and your families a very happy and healthy holiday season! ❤ - Hayley Renee
