Epilogue:

The small woman pulls a hood over her head as the wind picks up, staring down at the tomb stone before her she couldn’t believe just a year ago today her beloved husband had passed from cancer. “Life is so dull without your smile…” she whispers, the rose in her hand falls from her fingers landing at her feet perfectly across his grave.

Closing her green eyes the cold crisp air brushes against her skin and she could almost feel his hand caress her cheek as a response. “Oliver graduated Law school yesterday, he is becoming too much like you. I guess the apple doesn’t fall from the tree…we all wished you could have been there.” A single tear slides down her cheek at the impossible dream.

“Jazmine?” Slightly frightened her eyes spring open at her name, expecting to see the ghost of her husband she was even more surprised to see the eyes of a snake a few graves down. A ghost in his own right, taking in a sharp breath Jazmine examines his face. Those were Randy’s eyes, but his hair now white and his face much aged wrinkles and all, not that time hasn’t done a number on her as well.

“Randy?” she whispers not believing her eyes, frozen as a statue they stood there just staring at each other taking in everything they were older but to each other they were just as beautiful as the day they met. “Wh- why are you here?” she asks the wind brushing up her back now, almost as though pushing her toward him following command she takes a step forward and he meets her in the middle.

“Today is Sam’s birthday…” he whispers, Jazmine eyes him with confusion but when he looks over his shoulder at the grave he was standing at she realizes Sam passed away.

“I’m sorry…when?” She asks awkwardly not sure how to go about this, she didn’t like it when people brought up her loss so she could only imagine how much he hates it.

“Almost three years ago, heart attack.” She nods knowing the pain of losing a spouse, she stares down at her shoes not knowing what to say or do next. Looking into her green eyes his heart was rising with joy, how odd that they would meet up again here of all places. “Why are you here?” he questions, wanting the conversation to continue.

“My husband died a year ago today…” she mumbles motioning over to the stone, he glances over and reads the name.

“You married Kyle?” he asks slightly jealous, of course she got married and probably had kids but a part of him always hoped she had waited for him.

“Yeah, we had ended up having three kids…Oliver, Iris, and Conner. Did Sam and you end up having more kids?” She asks keeping the small talk going, brushing her hair behind her ear in her usual way.

“We did end up having a Randy Jr.” he smiles wanting so bad to hug her and pull her close and spend the rest of his life with her but having no idea how to bring it up, taking a few steps over she stares down at Kyle’s grave almost asking him if this was okay. Not wanting to lose her again he quickly pulls out his wallet and digs inside.

“Jaz, look…” tracing her fingers over the letters of his name, she glances over her shoulder and sees the shiny metal dog tag in his hand. “Forever and Always…right?” he asks hoping it was enough for her to realize how much he still loves her.

With tears beading in her eyes, she glances back over at Kyle’s name and she could feel him assuring her it was okay. “Forever and Always…” she smiles, standing up and embracing him in a passionate kiss just as if they were still young, wild and free.

“I never stopped loving you, Jazmine. There wasn’t a day I didn’t think about you and wish you all the happiness in the world.” He confesses and she smiles knowing the feeling of loving someone from a far.

“I guess we do get this lifetime after all… that is if you still want me, all worn out and old!” she laughs gesturing to her much older body, he chuckles.

“You are just as beautiful as the first time I ever saw you!”

                                                           The End.
