Chapter One: The Chaos Theory The flapping of a single butterfly's wing today produces a tiny change in the state of the atmosphere. Over a period of time, what the atmosphere actually does diverges from what it would have done. So, in a month's time, a tornado that would have devastated the Indonesian coast doesn't happen. Or maybe one that wasn't going to happen, does. -The Chaos Theory Hermione sighed as she ran her fingers over the spines of the library's books. If it weren't for the library and all the books and knowledge it had, she would not have returned to Hogwarts. It had taken much persuasion but even Harry had come back for his final year. The summer had been disastrous, to say the least. During a trip to Diagon Alley, they had been attacked by Death Eaters and had the honor of having Voldemort present as well. Many of the Order had not survived. Lupin and Tonks had died together. Lupin was hit by the killing curse while trying to protect Tonks but it had been in vain. She died a few seconds after him. Many of the other witches and wizards who had unfortunately been there had been killed as well, including some of the students from Hogwarts. But of everyone, Hermione felt her heart go out the most to Mrs. Weasley. She could not stand to be in the older witches presence because of how much this new Molly saddened her. She had lost all but Ginny, Fred and Percy to the massacre. She had shed many tears for everyone but quickly retreated to the library where she locked herself up in books. She had tried to not show her feelings when Harry went in the exact opposite direction. He had become grouchier and seemed to drift in and out. He had also taken over more protection of Ginny. She believed half the reason he went back to Hogwarts was make sure Ginny was safe. They had called the disaster one of the worst in history. It had claimed the lives of so many innocent people and had succeeded in making Voldemort the most feared Wizard to ever live. She sighed again, stifling back her tears when she saw a book that she didn't recognize. The Transcendence of Time. She frowned as she pulled the large book off its shelf. She began to flip through the pages examining it. Was it a book about time spells? But they were illegal. How can a book about them be in a school library? She looked over at Madam Pince and saw that she was yelling at a Hufflepuff who had dropped her book. 'She can be a bit strict at times,' she thought as she continued examining the book. She stopped, however, when she came upon a page that caught her attention. The chapter was entitled "The Circle of Time." B... Show full text: 519,884 characters
