Joslynn's POV

I looked at myself in the mirror of my bedroom, wondering how I grew up so fast. I was in my black and blue cap and gown, along with a blue dress underneath with some black heels. I looked...grown. Like a woman. What happened? I feel like it was just yesterday when I was running around on the playground with my jump rope. And now...I'm graduating high school. Where did the time go?

Right then, I heard my bedroom door open. I looked up to see Louis. He looked a little nervous, but he was smiling. He was wearing a gray suit, along with a blue tie and black shoes. After a minute, he said, "You look beautiful."

I blushed a bit and smiled and said, "Thanks, Lou. You don't look so bad yourself."

He smiled and said, "We're going to have to go soon."

I sighed and sat on my bed and said, "I know...But, I don't want to."

"Why not?" Louis asked, a bit confused, as he came to sit by me on my bed.

I leaned my head on his shoulder and he put his arm around my waist. This was okay...right?

"I don't want to grow up." I said. I never had thought much about it before, but now...I was scared.

"No one does. But, it's part of life. But, you're not done growing. You can always be the silly immature girl you are."

I laughed a bit and said, "Like you?"

"Yes...but not the girl part."

I laughed again and said, "I just...I don't want to have to pay taxes, get a job, or do any of that stuff. I want to stay as a little girl and not know the dangers of the world."

Louis sighed and said, "I feel the same way a lot of the time. Remember when you were five and you wanted to grow up really badly? You put on your mom's heels and a princess dress and tried to do your makeup...It was really funny. You said you wanted to be a grown up and be in charge."

I laughed a bit at the memory, wondering what on Earth I was thinking. "Little did I know there would be so many struggles as a grown up...and I haven't even fully grown up yet."

"I know." Louis sighed, rubbing my back. "It's hard to face right now, but it will all be okay. I promise."

I smiled and said, "Thanks, Lou."

"I love you." He whispered.

I hesitated before saying, "I love you, too."

We both are adjusting, slowly, how to love each other without pain. Not being with Louis is hard. But, I'm doing it for myself. It's what's for the best.

I think.

 Louis's POV

"Joslynn Marie Davis." The school principal, Mrs. Nichols, called out. Right on cue, the most beautiful girl walked out on stage in her cap and gown with a huge smile on her face. She looked confident and poised, and, well, gorgeous.

"Joslynn is undecided about where she plans to attend college, and she says she would like to personally thank her mom, dad, and her best friend, Louis, for their support throughout her high school years."

Joslynn then walked down the stage stairs to sit with the rest of the seniors.

She mentioned me? Wow. I didn't think she'd thank me personally.

After about 45 more minutes, everyone's name had been called. But, when they came to Joshua, they simply said "He couldn't be with us today," and now they were moving on to the valedictorian speech.
