COPPER

Love began again, reborn with maturity and age. College was not a time of study for Marya, but a time of renewal. Her mother funded her a chance to discover a love for a profession.

Marya could not bear to stop working, so she took up a part time job at a library. It was familiar; the smell of books and neat rows, only the clothes and visitors differed. Some students would check out books and return two weeks later. Rooms were often frequented by late night studiers. Teachers greeted her periodically as they checked out textbooks.

There was one boy, though, that stood out. He visited the library every day and left with a new book slipped between his arms. Without fail, even upon weekends, his copper hair would flash between aisles. However, he never stayed to read, immediately he would leave after obtaining his newest adventure.

Marya discovered his name quickly,

"Peter."

"Yes?"

"Oh, you come here a lot, huh?"

"Yeah, it’s a beautiful place."

"How do you finish those books so quickly?"

"I don't stop reading."

"Don't you have things to do?"

He smiled, and there was a hint of slyness,

"I do."
