Dear Santa

422 50 55

Chestnuts are roasting

And champagne we are toasting

As wee girls and boys

Await their new toys

Dreaming in bed

Of the man in red…

(But I worry about Santa’s back

Carrying so many toys in that sack)

Now I’ve seen all the movies

And I know all the theories

About how the toys just appear

With the pause of reindeer

And the magical mystery

Of a simple chimney…

(So, does every house just disarm

Their burglar alarm?)

I love the wonder and glee

In every child I see

When giving Santa their list,

Gently tugging on his wrist,

Placing desire in his hands

Trusting and loving the jolly old man

(Now, how can he possibly eat

Every single left-out treat?)

Remember how we would all scurry

To our beds in a frenzied hurry

When we thought dear Santa might get a peek

Of us all not fast asleep?

That excited flutter deep in your chest

Thinking how Christmas was just simply the best

(But, Dear Santa, I better see under the tree

*That* special ring from Tiffany's!)
