AUGUST P.O.V. –

The kids’ school called me yet again. Amber couldn’t leave because she was teaching class at this time.  I was on my lunch break and the school wasn’t far from me so I decided to go.

Amb said she would pick up A3 later and it wouldn’t be fair to pull him out of class because Sata was out of control.

She was removed from class yet again for fighting. This time a little girl. They say your kids have a lot of traits of yourself, and oh how I wish I could take back my angry days.

It was starting in Sata and she was only six. I didn’t want to keep whooping her, especially if it wasn’t helping. I decided to take the Dr. Edwards approach and talk to her and see why she was so angry. And what this fight was all about.

I parked my car in the school’s parking lot and went inside the school to the main office. Sata was sitting in a chair with her arms folded, silently crying.

“Dr. Alsina she’s suspended for a week.” A woman behind the desk told me.

I looked back at Sata who just looked down, still crying.

“If she continues to have these behavior problems, we might ask that she be moved to another school. We don’t allow that here.”

“I understand.” I simply said and signed the sheet they asked me to sign.

“Let’s go.” I looked at her. She got her book bag. I grabbed her hand and we walked out of the school toward the car.

I opened the back door for her to get in. She did and I closed the door.

I got in the front seat and drove to a forest preserve that was around my office. The parking lot was pretty empty, which was good. I didn’t want a lot of people around.

I got out then opened the back door.

“Get out.”

“Where we going?” She said unbuckling her seat belt.

“Just get out.”

She did and I closed the door behind her.

I took her hand and we walked along a path that went into the woods. The weather was nice today. It wasn’t too hot. It wasn’t too cold. It was just right and there was a light breeze.

“Sata talk to me. Why you acting out like this?” I asked her as we walked along the path. Just the two of us were on.

“I just get angry.” She wiped her eyes.

“But what is making you so angry that you keep fighting?”

“This…this girl was saying lies about you.”

I stopped. “About me ?” I looked down at her confused.

She shook her head yes, still wiping her running eyes with her hand that was not in mine.

“What did she say about me?”

“She said her Auntie said you weren’t my real daddy. And I told her to stop saying that. And she kept saying it. And then all the other kids started teasing me.”

I should’ve known the situation with Nate was going to come back to haunt us. After all we were in Atlanta. Nate was the mayor. And he died in a very high profile situation.

What I didn’t expect was that it was going to affect my kids. Adults should fucking know better. If you have a problem with me and wife come talk to me. But don’t gossip about that shit in front of your kids and then your child comes in and makes my daughter’s life miserable.
