The next day Vincent and I were going to have a meeting. I laughed when he called it a meeting because, well, honestly it was just going to be a conversation between the two of us. He wanted to talk to me about the rules and talents of being a vampire. He was basically showing me the ropes. He told me that this was important because some sires leave their children. I was grateful that he didn’t leave me. When I woke up this morning I was happy. Not that content happy shit, the real thing. Truly happy. Things were going to be better; I would make sure of it. Vincent would never hurt anyone again. And although the past was painful I felt it was necessary for me to get here.
“Lucia?” Vincent knocked on the door to the bathroom. I was starring in the mirror again. I couldn’t believe it was really me. I could not believe I could be so beautiful.
“Yes, love, you’re beautiful. Why don’t you come to the library with me so we can talk?” He said through the door. I sighed and opened the door.
“Why are you making this seem like such a big deal?”
“It is a big deal, honey. You need to know these things in order to survive as a vampire. Please take this seriously.” He said in a gentle tone. I smiled at him apologized and kissed him as we walked hand in hand to the library. When we got there Vincent had sat out many different books on a table. We sat down beside each other and he looked at me very seriously.
“First thing’s first. I am going to tell you the Laws of the Vampiri. If you break these laws you could be tortured or put to death. I’ve broken a few laws before. One of them I must apologize directly to you again. I took away your virginity, and I am very sorry. However, I hope that you’ll not tell anyone because that’s punishable by death. I’d rather not die, especially not when I’m about to be king.” He laughed uneasily at the last part.
“I won’t tell anyone. I don’t know what I would do without you. So let’s get on with the laws so we can go hang out with Sarah!” I promised her we would play a game with her.
“Okay first of all is that no humans outside of this dimension can know about us. That’s easy to remember, right?” All I could think about when he looked at me was the way his body felt moving against mine. “Lucia, I love that feeling too. I very much enjoy making love to you. I’d like to do it after we’re finished, and I don’t want to be mean. But you need to focus, okay sweetie?”
“I’m sorry. I understand. No humans in any place other than here can know about vampires.” I nodded. He smiled.
“The second law is you cannot unlawfully kill another vampire. It’s easy to remember. It’s much like the human law, except there are more reasons you can kill a vampire.”
“What are the reasons?”
“Of course if the other vampire has the intent to kill you or hurt you, you can defend yourself by taking his or her life. Then if the other vampire is threatening you or something that belongs to you, they pay with their life. Also if you are royal, that’d would be us, well me right now, you in a month, you have the right to kill anyone.” He explained clearly.
“We can kill anyone?”
