As Denis remains silent and assesses my face, I keep it straight, not giving anything away. Finally he raises his searching gaze and stares into my eyes, lifting his brows. "And how do you suppose we jump this hurtle?"

I bite my lip to refrain from grinning. "Well Jason can help me out..."

He looks toward the mob of people that are my friends and family, seeking out Jason. I follow his lead and when my eyes find Jason's I can no longer contain my excitement; a wide grin settles on my face.

"Who's Jason?"

Jason adverts his shocked eyes away from mine to instead look at Denis. "Jason Henderson,"

Denis smiles and motions for Jason to stand and move forward. They shake hands. "Great to meet you, kid. Tell me, can you help Alicia out?"

"Uh," He looks at me and I nod frantically. "I don't really know what song she's chosen or anything-"

"Don't be silly," I cut across him quickly, grabbing his hand and pulling him in front of another microphone stand nearby my own. "It's Who You Are by Jessie J; you've watched me practice it a million times!"

In all honesty he had no clue what song I'd be singing today, and he doesn't know the tone or tune I'm singing it in, either. But I knew last night while thinking in bed about today that this was what I had to do; I had to jump and take the risk. A career in music is what we've both always wanted, and I'll go to all lengths to ensure that we make it together.

"So?" Denis looks between us.

"He'll sing," Stefanie says from beside my mum on the couch. She smiles toward her son encouragingly.

"Okay," Jason finally agrees, albeit still a little unsure. "I'll sing with her."

"Right," Denis claps again, his eyes shining with his excitement. "I've waited long enough. Let's hear your voice, Alicia."

I grab my guitar from Savannah who whispers me a good luck before pulling out my highlighted sheet of lyrics. I help myself to a stool near the door and place it in front of my microphones' stand.

"Alicia," Jason whispers into my ear as the people surrounding us speak to one another, awaiting our start.

"The lyrics on the sheet that are highlighted in orange are your parts," I tell him quickly. Again he says my name, and again I ignore him. "Don't worry about the rest, they're mine-"

"Alicia!" He almost shouts and this time I can't ignore him. I turn my head to see his angry eyes. He whispers furiously. "I'm talking to you!"

"Sorry," I mutter, already knowing that a rant is coming.

"What do you think you're doing?" He runs his hands through his hair, looking stressed. "I have no idea how you've remixed the song or anything!"

"'Ohana' means family," I grab his hand, smiling sadly. "And family means nobody gets left behind."

He sighs heavily, opening his mouth.

"Don't even," I whisper harshly before turning back to Denis, whose eyes are embarrassingly on us. I smile at him. "We're ready."

"If everyone could now remain quiet," Denis raises his voice and everyone falls silent. He gestures to Jason and I. "They'll begin."

I look down at my guitar, smiling to myself as I begin to string the chords. From beside me Jason clears his throat, concentrating on the lyrics in front of him.

I bump into his shoulder gently and he looks at me, biting his lip. "I stare at my reflection in the mirror," He begins as I bite my lip. "Why am I doing this to myself?"
