Kayla: 20 weeks pregnant

The television roars at full volume as Damion perks on the edge of the sofa, his gaze firmly fixed onto the television screen as he watches the last few minutes of the game in deep concentration. “Come on, come on,” he mutters under his breath in anticipation.

I roll my eyes and shake my head as I continue to eat my healthy lunch, with only forty minutes to spare before my appointment with the Doctor. As I’m placing a strawberry into my mouth, I feel a fluttering feeling tapering on the wall of my stomach. I freeze for a split second, unsure of how to react to the strange feeling as I whisper “Damion...” and clasp hold of my stomach. Damion ignores me, his eyes still locked onto the television screen as he grits his teeth. As if someone has pocked me in the stomach with the eraser at the end of a pencil, I slightly jump at the second light sensation.

“Yes!” Damion roars, jumping high into the air as his favourite team scores. He runs around in a small circle, his face gleaming with relief and happiness as he fist pumps the air.

“Damion...” I call slightly louder as I gawk down at my stomach in wonder and disbelief.

He finally turns around and looks at me in expectation, “Yeah?”

I pause, staring at my stomach in amazement as the brightest smile spreads across my face, “It kicked me,” I whisper before meeting my gaze with Damion. I can’t believe that it kicked me, my baby actually kicked me. My baby is alive. Although I’ve had previous scans and they’ve all been perfect, it’s gotten a whole lot realer; I’m going to be a mother.

Damion’s eyes widen in shock as he rushes towards me, crouching down at my side as he carefully places his hand onto my stomach, “Are you for real?” he asks, “Are you sure that it was a kick?”

My face fills with glee as I place my hand on his, “Yes!” I exclaim.

“And are you sure that it wasn’t gas?” He questions as he scans his hand around my stomach.

I let out a laugh, “No, it was definitely a kick.”

“Will it kick again?” Damion asks, his hand still surfacing my stomach in desperation for another feel.

I chortle, “Probably, but I’m not sure when.”

Damion smiles at me before planting a kiss on my lips and then softly kissing my stomach. He then says in an unusual cooey voice that I rarely ever hear, “Hey little baby, do you want to say hello to daddy?” As he places his ear to my stomach, nodding as if the baby is talking to him. I smile at him in admiration, “Oh okay, you’ll kick later on so daddy can feel,” he finishes.
