The Winter Breaking of Harmony and Lavender

I was digging through my dresser searching for the rest of my black thermals when I came across a to-small-for-me purple shirt,

“Uh Chris, this must be yours.”

I looked over across the room at my dorm mate and closest friend at St. Maria’s All Girl Boarding School. Chris looked over at me and her eyes shined mischievously like they always did when she was going to tell a joke,

“Well, that or Madison’s trying to sneak color into your wardrobe to scare you out of the dorms” She grinned.

I rolled my eyes then threw the shirt at her,

“Oh, Shut up.” I said before I started looking through the drawers again. When I found the shirts I walked over to my bed and attempted to stuff it into my suit case with my other winter clothes. How did I even get myself into this? I thought… Oh yeah… I remember…

It was a week ago.

I was in Lavender’s room and we were studying for an English quiz coming up … well at least Lavender was studying.

“Harmony” She asked.

“Huh?” I looked up from my English book.

“I can see.” She said as she raised a silver eyebrow.

“See what?” I put on my best innocently curious expression.

“I can see over the English book … you’re not going over the vocabulary words. You’re reading comics aren’t you?” She gave me an ‘I’ll-know-if-you’re-lying’ look.

“What! How can you see, I thought I positioned the Book perfectly so you wouldn’t be able to see the comic book in front of it.” I moaned.

“I couldn’t see it, it was a bluff.” She smiled showing off her perfect lip shape.

“Huh? Then how did.” I asked dumbfounded.

“Vocabulary words are not that funny, you’ve busted out in random laughter three times now” she stated.

“Oh” I laughed then put my English book and my Scott Pilgrim Vol.4 comic down.

“Well, since you’re obviously done studying today now would probably be a good time to ask. Alright, so please hear me out first before you answer and don’t just refuse right away.” She started as she too set her book aside.

“Okay so I’m sure you’ve heard about it already since everyone’s talking about it, but the schools offering sign ups for a class trip for those who don’t want to go home or stay at the dorms over winter break and-” She didn’t get to finish because I cut her off.

“No.”

“But I didn’t even finish talking” She argued.

“I refuse” I said swiftly.

“It won’t be as bad as you think… It’s going to be at a beautiful lodge and there’s going to be skiing and snowboarding and if we don’t want to go in the snow we can just cuddle by the fire and drink hot chocolate … or do other stuff.” She batted her silver lashes and smiled in a flirtatious way as she added the last part.

Gosh, she was hard to refuse, but …

“I’m not going.” I held my ground.

“Why not!” She exclaimed in a very un Lavender like way.

“Well, first off Madison’s going; secondly, it’s a trip for both St. Maria’s and St. Paul’s, so Auburn’s going too. Also, Madison’s going to be there. Another thing too is that I don’t have any clothes suitable for playing in the snow. Oh and have I mentioned that Madison’s going?” I said.

“A lost of people are going Harmony, we probably won’t even see Madd or Auburn.” She reasoned.

“I don’t even want to be in the same building as her.” I said truthfully.

“But you are, everyday during first period” She had a point.

“Still, I don’t have any snow friendly clothes” I admitted.

“We can go shopping tomorrow, I’ll drive.” She gave me a pleading smile.

“I can’t afford a shopping spree” Well, it was the truth.

“I’ll pay” She added quickly.

“Ugh! Why do you even want to go? Why can’t we just spend the holidays here? You can sleep in my room because Chris will be away on the trip and we can still spend time together. No one will even be at the dorms, so we will practically have it all to ourselves.” I pleaded.

“I want to go because I’m getting tired of being stuck here at this school. I’ve been here longer than you have Harmony and I definitely do not want to go home.” She argued,

“I’m sorry but I don’t want to go Lavender.” I said in a sympathizing voice. I understood where she was coming from, but I didn’t want to give up my Madison free break.
