Chapter 1
"Do you really want to stay with Aunt Claudia?" My elder brother, Maxwell, asked with a sad look in his eyes. We were in the living room of my deceased parents home. They were very wealthy and when they were killed it was inhereted by Maxwell. My father was the best friend to the king which made his status as a Duke.
"I'm sure dear Maxwell. I want not to be such a bother to either you or Lady Isabella." I say truthfully. Brother and Lady had recently married and i wanted to give them as much privacy as they needed.
Maxwell lightly kissed my forehead. I had not noticed the tears falling down my face. He wiped them away.
"You need not cry brother, i am gone only in presence but not in heart." He reassured me. I curtly nodded. I still could not shake the feeling inside my chest. "I love you so don't cry." He whispers. Once those words were processed i remembered i had to be strong for me and for him. I embraced him returning the same words.
My clothes and possessions were packed and loaded onto the carriage. Maxwell and i bidded our last farewells.
I refused to turn and look at the only home i have ever had and the only family i had left slowly but surely fade from sight. I knew it was not the last i would see of my Maxwell but no words could dull the pain.
The whole ride i laid balled up on the seat. Finally i felt the carriage halt to a stop and i quickly sat up and straightened my attire.
"Presenting Konrad Lewis, young Duke of Grailsworth." I heard the annoying man shout.
I take one last deep breath before the door is opened. The light blinding me with its brilliance. I step out of the carriage and welcomed by many bowing and curtseying servants and Nobelmen.
At the top of the staircase outside stood my Aunt Claudia. She stared at me with a very disapproving look. She never fancyed me, it was always Maxwell she adored and disscused with when she visited our home in the summer.
I made my way to my Aunt and bowed low to show a grave amount of respect.
"Well come in child. No fooling around now." Aunt Claudia snaps in a very high pitched voice. She was actually very beautiful despite her cruelty.
"Yes Lady Claudia." I said quickly and followed her into the estate.
