Chapter 1 The Baby

The Same Amount of Kisses

"Mama?" I asked. "Yes?" rang her sweet but confident voice. I looked at her worried face. "Is everything alright?" I asked, I was only 3 at the time and my mother's look was confusing me. "No, let's talk honey" she said leading me to 3 chairs and sat me down in one then brought my dad in on another. Plopping down in the chair my mom said, "I have some very exciting news for you 2!"

My face brightened up knowing nothing was seriously wrong with mom. She look at daddy then me. "We're having another baby!" she said as excitedly as possible. But at that time my brain stopped. I wanted to fall over and die, or have my insides squeezed out or possibly jump off a bridge. A baby was what I had been dreading.

I ran up to my room pretending to be excited but burst into tears and ran into my room crying. As I lay on the bed I heard my mother's soft foot steps. As she walked in I hid under the covers.

"Ashy, " she said sitting down on my bed to rub my back, "A baby is nothing to be afraid of" I looked at her and started sniffling "i-i-it's not?" I mumbled. She shook her head smiling "of course not, a brother or sister is someone to hold, someone to charish, and someone who you can tattle on." I smiled and giggled. "Can you promise me you can handle a baby?" she asked.

I looked at her and said "If you can promise me something." "And what's that?" she asked.

I just looked at her with a huge smile, "Can I have the same amount of kisses?" She laughed just laughed and said "Of course honey!"

And she was right, I do get the same amount of kisses.
