Summer 2010

"what are you doing" said a voice from the shadows

"I am going riding, why?" said a teenage boy probabably about 16.

"shawn, the suns getting ready to go down. It's dangerous to do that at night." said the mother as she stepped into the dimly lit storage garage. She walked over to him and smacked him behind the head playfully.

"well, it does have headlights. Come on, just ten minutes?" she gave a sad face he knew his mother would pity and let him, it was just a manner of asking enough.

"well," she pondered, "I guess, but just for a little while" she smiled at him softly. " take Jaydenn with you"

"ok, I will." he said regretably, but knew if he turned it down she may take her choice back.

He ran into the two story house and got his older twin brother from the living room. He was an aspiring author. He wrote with the fluid precision of some of the great novelists like Poe or Steven king. Even William Shakespeare couldn't quite pick up his ability in writing.

His family wanted him to go to school and become a writer, but he didn't. He truely dreamed of majoring in music and becoming a music director. His dream was to make a choir and take it all the way to the global choir competition one year.

His parents didn't know of this hidden goal. Only his close friends knew.

Shawn entered the room with the normal pomp he always did. Jaydenn was the same way, but he was worse. His friends had a good way with that. "hey, doya wanna go riding?" she said in a typical west Virginia accent.

Jaydenn didn't share that accent. He was rather well educated for someone of his age. The had the mind of a great scientist, but he also had a personality that could cure cancer. "sure, why not, I call the purple one. Just let me finish this piece." he was sitting at the piano in is room. You could tell the kid was very musically interested. His room was full of posters of musicians from across time. In the center of the room was a perfectly placed piano, it was a grand piano, and it was given to Him for his 10th birthday. He quickly learned to play, and began writing music.

He continued playing and writing, once he was finished he stood up and looked at his brother. "last on to the top is a sour note."

His brother smiled, and he ran to the 4-wheelers. There were three in the garage. A blue one, Shawn's, a purple one which was Jaydenn's because he liked purple and didn't care what other people thought. his girlfriend liked the fact that he was proud about who he was and the fact he loved her. And a pink one that Steven got her for her birthday.

They got on their 4-wheelers and drove up the road and onto the mountain path. The both had headphones in, so they couldn't hear anything. They could see each other as they raced up to the top of the mountain.

They reached the top just as the sun started to set. The orange make the sky look as though it was a world on fire. Steven pulled out his phone and called Miranda, His girlfrend of a year. They talked about the sunset which she could see from her house.

Then, the boys heard a strange roaring and odd sounds. After, silence...
