Mom, Emma, and Noah were murdered. The person who killed them sent me a letter later saying he would come after my Dad too, so I should protect him while I can. He wanted me to be lonely just like him. Why don't I ever listen when I should?

~Early morning~

"So how do you feel about going out?" Dad said. I could see he was trying to make me happier. The look in his eye told me that I should say yes because he already has some thing planned.

"Sure, what do you have in mind?" I say excitedly. He knows that no matter how happy I act I will always be sad deep down. "Well you know that band you like so much? You know uhh..." He looked so happy and excited. "Standing Upright." I smiled at him because I had known about the concert but didn't ask to go. "Yeah! That one, I got tickets!" he said as I jumped up and hugged him. "Thanks, but I got to get to work. Bye!"

~Later that night~

"You ready to go?" my dad yelled up at me. "Yeah, just hold on!" I said as I hopped down the stairs while putting shoes on. "Okay, let's go" he said, grabbing my arm so I didn't fall.

We got in the car and raced down the highway. I got off work early so we could go and try to get in the front of the line. Once we got there, we saw that we had gotten there just in time. We could tell that the inside would be filling up fast.

"Well, we have around an hour until the doors open, what do you want to do?" my dad asked. He was so happy, but somehow I got this feeling that wouldn't last and that the only reason he was happy was because of the pills he was on.

"We can't really do much except hang out until the doors open because if we move, we have to go all the way back to the back." I smiled at him, I really wanted him to think I was happy.

~An hour later~

"Finally!" I said. We had waited for what seem like forever. We gave our tickets to the doorman. I grabbed my Dad's hand and said, "Run!" We ran as fast as we could thourgh the crowd. We got to the middle of the second row. "Not bad, old man!" I said to him as he went to stand behind me, so he could try to protect me from the pushing crowds.

"This is great!" he yelled in my ear. The flashing lights started so I knew the show was about to start and people started screaming.

I heard the first notes to my favorite song. Then the lights went out and everything seemed to slow down.

It was dark. Then above all the screaming, I heard the voice that would haunt me for years. "I told you that I wasn't done with your family, why didn't you listen?" Then the sound of gunshots. He was right!  Why didn't I listen.

He got to my dad that night. I'm all that's left of my family.
