Chapter Fifty Four - Avowal

“Gaby?” Rinig niyang nag-aalalang tanong sa kanya ni Greg.

She was pregnant. She was pregnant with his child. She was going to be the mother of Greg’s child. She was suddenly feeling a mixture of emotions. She was happy. She was feeling immensely happy for she was carrying Greg’s child. But then something was bothering her… something that Greg said at his office a very long time ago.

“Don’t worry. I’ll never let you bore my children. You’re not the type of woman I’m planning to spend the rest of my life with anyway.”

Bigla siyang kinabahan. Itatakwil kaya siya ni Greg pag nalaman nitong buntis siya?

“Is that a pregnancy test kit?” Tanong nito sa kanya. Tumango siya pero hindi ito sinagot. Ni hindi niya ito matingnan ng diretsahan sa mata.

Then she realized something… Why was she so afraid of Greg’s reaction? Kung ano man ang magiging reaksyon ni Greg ay wala na itong magagawa. She was already pregnant and there’s nothing he can do. “Buntis ako, Greg.”

She had to be strong now. She was not only fighting for herself but also for the baby inside her womb. Nakita niya ang halo-halong emosyon sa mukha nito. Ilang minuto din silang tahimik na dalawa. He was just looking at her as if he didn’t understand what she just said. “Greg, I know you don’t want me to be the mother of your child and as you said before I’m not the kind of woman you’re planning to spend the rest of you life… but there’s nothing you can do. Buntis ako at wala ka nang magagawa. Now if you want me to leave, I will. Kaya ko namang mag-isa. But think about your child, Greg. I hope you will still support—”

“What makes you think I’ll let you leave?” Kalmadong tanong nito sa kanya.

Kumunot ang noo niya. What was he playing now? Bigla tuloy siyang naguluhan. Diba’y ito ang may sabi noon na ayaw nitong maging siya ang ina ng magiging anak nito?  “But… but that’s what you said before. I-I don’t understand—”

“Gaby, listen—”

“No, Greg. You listen to me! Wala akong pakealam kung itatakwil mo ako dahil sa buntis ako! But think about your child and that’s all what matters to—”

“Jesus Christ, Gabrielle! Pwede bang tumahimik ka muna?” Napatikom ang kanyang bibig ng biglang lumakas ang boses ni Greg. He then walked towards her with eyes blazing like fire. He stopped a few steps away and then stared down at her. She suddenly felt small. Kahit sabihing humigit 5’6 ang height niya ay nagmistula siyang bata sa harap ni Greg. He was a giant.

“You’re not going anywhere, Gabrielle. You’re staying here and you will remain my wife and—”
