"Yo Burner." Someone called to me as I walked out of school at three. I turned to see Kale and Max standing in the parking lot.
"C'ya later Tina." I told the cute brunette that I had my arm around before jogging over to the guys.
"God you work fast." Max said as he watched Tina walk away. I just grinned at him.
"We got something you're gonna wanna see." Kale told me before getting in his jeep.
"What?" I asked suspiciously.
"It's a surprise." Kale said as he started up his car. "Get in."
What the hell, I thought to myself,I have nothing better to do. "Alright." I told them and hopped in. On the way to where ever we were going Kale and Max told me more about themselves. Kale was the captain of the football team and Max was the captain of the basketball team.
"Play any sports?" Max asked me, trying to determine if I was a threat.
"Nah," I told him shaking my head, "I'm more of a speed demon. Racings my thing."
"Racing what?" Kale asked.
"Whatever I can get my hands on." I told him. My dad had a habit of collecting cars. I had a habit of stealing them, but only for a spin of course. "But by vehicle of choice is my motorcycle."
"So no sports then?"
"I use to race go-karts when I was little. Mainly because I like taking things apart and fixing them, but it was the sport that got my hooked on speed."
"Go-karts?" Kale grinned, "Like the little bumped cars at carnivals?"
"Not even close." I told him slightly pissed off. I hated it when people dissed carting. "The ones that I drove can get up to about 90mph. At almost every single race people crashed and had to taken to the hospital. There was always an ambulance at the track on race days."
"Sounds dangerous." Max said as he changed the radio station.
"Ah yeah," I told him, "Haven't you even heard of formula one? It's only one of the biggest sports in Europe."
"Isn't that like Nascar?" Max asked.
"Hell no." I groaned embarrassed at their lack of knowledge. "I give up on you guys." They both just laughed at me.
"Well maybe you could take a look at my car sometime." Max said to me, "It's been acting funny lately."
"Fine, but by then you better be able to tell me the difference between formula one and Nascar." I warned him.
"We're here." Kale said pulling into the parking lot at Starbucks.
"This is the surprise?" I asked them disappointed, "You do know we have these in Florida right?" Kale just smirked and walked inside. I followed them in and they sat down at a booth, I was about to join them when Kale stopped me.
"No," he said before I could sit down, "Go order something." I scowled and walked over to the register.
"Hey baby." I called to the girl behind the counter. She turned around to look at me, and my jaw dropped.
"Ugh you again?" Rose asked.
"Friendly." I told her leaning up against the counter and smirking. Rose just put a hand on her hip.
"What do you want?" She asked, unenthused.
"How about a coke?" I asked her.
"This is Starbucks, we serve coffee." She told me pointing up at the menu and giving me a 'duh' look.
"Right," I told her, "Just get me your favorite."
"Fine." She said rolling her eyes and grabbing a cup.
"So Rose," I said as I watched her make my drink, "You never did tell me what you thought."
"About what?" she asked snapping the lid down on the cup before handing it to me.
"About watching that movie with me." I said taking a sip and making a face. It tasted disgusting.
"Your total is $4.95," she said ringing up my bill.
"$4.95?" I asked shocked, "For this awful crap, you got to be kidding me."
"It's coffee." Rose said throwing her hand up in the air, "What do you expect when you walk into acoffeeshop?"
"Coke." I told her smiling and pulling a five out of my wallet. "And once again you didn't answer my question."
"No." Rose told me, "I don't want to watch it with you."
"Oh I see. Playing hard to get?"
"Keep dreaming." She said holding out the nickel I was owed.
"We'll see," I told her, "And keep the change."
"Oh gee thanks." Rose said dropping it in the 'take a penny, leave a penny' jar.
"Anytime." I told her before going to sit down with the Kale and Max.
"You guys suck." I said when I got to the table. Kale burst out laughing.
"Looks like you played it cool to me." Max said and he grabbed my coffee and took a sip.
"Yeah right." I said thinking about our conversation, "I can't figure that girl out for the life of me. She's so stubborn."
"Give it time man." Kale said smirking and turning to Max
"Lots of time." Max laughed.
We sat in Starbucks till Max finished my drink and then we left. But before we did I left a note for Rose on the cup: "Me, you, and a chick flick. 232-555-8787"
