The next few weeks passed in a blur, and I was fully focused on my studies as I had important assessments to complete for my grand GPA. Katherine hadn't bothered me and so I figured she kept her eye out for me secretly as I went on dates with Stefan and faked every moment of the time we spent together. It was wearing me down, not being able to just be with Damon. I was getting tired of faking something that wasn't going to return- my love for Stefan. Honestly I was over the whole situation, and I wanted to just break the news, but I realised how much was at stake.

I wanted to call Katherine but Miss Mystic Falls was close now, I didn't want to ruin everything. Damon had devised a plan with Tyler and Jeremy, keeping it a secret from Stefan and he had pulled Bonnie into it, making sure that she wouldn't spill the beans to Caroline.

Since it was now certain that Klaus would be there, I would arrive with Stefan playing as the 'happy girlfriend,' Jeremy would arrive shortly after me with weapons hidden and Damon would show up in the tense moment, waiting to spring. Bonnie would wait on the sidelines waiting for the cue to use her magic, and when Katherine would make her move, we would be sure to have Klaus on our side. It was basically full proof.

I was just finishing a biology report when Bonnie and Caroline appeared in my doorway.

"You've been studying too hard, you need a break!" Caroline squeaked, pulling me up away from my desk and pushing me out of my house.

"She's right Elena, you're going to get straight A's guaranteed, let loose. We're going to see a movie."

"What movie?" I asked, rolling my eyes as I got into Caroline's car.

"A horror of course, only the best," Caroline said with a grin.

"It's about a girl who gets possessed and goes around with mind powers, killing some with only one stab wound," Bonnie murmured quietly.

"Sounds very scary."

"We're watching it now so we won't be spooked later! Nighttime only makes horror movies worse," Caroline replied with a frown.

"What's the point of this? Surely there's some ulterior motive?" I questioned, my voice raising higher in pitch.

They both shook their head and I sighed, looking out of the window the whole drive to the cinemas.

The line was huge, turned out a movie was premiering and there wasn't enough workers to sell tickets in individual lines. The popcorn smelled amazing. The line was filled with excited whispers as we got closer to the front.

"This better be worth the wait," Bonnie grumbled.

Caroline ordered our tickets and her and Bonnie headed to grab the seats while I waited for the fresh popcorn batch. The lights were still on when I got inside the room, dimming slowly as I made my way to the back row where Caroline sat grinning at the screen.

"Popcorn, mmh!" She grabbed a handful. "I'm so glad we can't get fat I could eat all day, mountains of popcorn-"

Loud music began to play, causing her to jump and squeal. Bonnie looked at me glumly and the opening credits of the movie began to play. I had hoped the movie would be as scary as the preview at the line showed.

Piano music started, a composition of sharp notes that were out of place; the sinister mood filled the air and Bonnie shrunk down into her seat. Caroline munched on the popcorn and I sat still, assessing everybody in the cinema. I was a killer, one wrong move and this whole space would turn into the sequel.

A scream on the large screen made my eyes flick in the direction, where the film showed a girl thrashing on a bed wildly, her whole body convulsing with sharp edgy movements. Her eyes were rolling back into her head and 'the evil spirit' slipped into her body. The screen went black and there were a few seconds of silence. Then the audience screamed as the girl appeared right in front of the camera, her face contorting as she pulled her lips back into a snarl and clenched her hands together. Her face was bloody and her eyes were pitch black.

The movie to an ordinary human would give nightmares for days, but to me it was a normal film, I would believe there are such things like that nowadays. It wouldn't surprise me if ghosts were inhabiting bodies already, but to most it's a myth.

"This is really creeping me out," Bonnie whispered low enough for me to hear. She was as pale as a ghost.

"I'll take you outside," I told her, and led her down the steps and out into the hallway. She was breathing heavily.

"Somethings been off with Caroline, I don't know why she suggested this- you and I both know she would choose a romance comedy," Bonnie murmured we walked to the ladies bathroom.

"Tell me about it, I noticed it too," I said.

Bonnie looked at her reflection glumly, and splashed cold water on her face. The lights began to flicker and she shivered. "Something isn't right..." The lights buzzed and dimmed to a low glow. Our faces were barely lit up, and Bonnie was beginning to freak out. "Elena, something's wrong!"

One light broke, crashing down just inches away from Bonnie as she began to topple over. I grabbed her and helped her outside. The hallway was dark, my eyes could just make out simple shapes of the posters, doors and bins.

Someone was waiting for us, I could sense it and I knew Bonnie could too. We slowly crept out to the front of the cinema and when we reached the door we heard a gun click. I froze, and Bonnie started mumbling.

"You're not leaving this alive," the voice said.

I turned around in a flash, and looked at the man who was aiming his pistol straight at me. The cinema workers were crouched behind the counter I heard them slowly breathing, trying to keep it together.

"You don't want to do this, you're going to pay big time for all the murders you'll commit. There's innocent people watching movies, think of all the families."

"I'm only here to kill you, the others I couldn't care less about." He cocked his head to the side and I heard his finger tighten on the gun trigger.

"Why do you want to kill me?" I asked him, stepping closer just a fraction. If I could keep him talking I'd easily get the gun out of his hand and snap his neck.

"I've been sent, and once I kill you I must kill myself, it's the only way," he replied, glaring at me.

He's been compelled, I realised. "Who put you up to this?"

"They wish to remain anonymous. Stop asking me questions, I have a job to do." He pulled the trigger and the gun fired. Bonnie screamed, and my body twisted as the bullet seared through my stomach, burning. The bullet had been dipped in vervain, and it stung horribly.

I hissed and in a second I had him up against the wall and my foot on the gun, my hands positioned to snap his neck in an instant.

"Want to do this?" I whispered. "Want me to kill you and leave you lifeless so nobody else has to die here?"

He whimpered and I dug my nails into his flesh,
