I looked over to Amena who's crossed her hands in front of her, keeping her patience. I sat back in my chair, arm crossed, just waiting for this madness to end and to just go to my room with Mason and wish for this all to end and just hope that one day everything will be normal again.
"We're done. Our decision is final." croaks my mother. I look up, not breaing a sweat yet. She goes upstairs to bed.
"Guess for the time being, I'm sleeping on the couch." my dad mumbled, grabbing a blanket from the closet. I stood up, took Amena's and Mason's hands, and walked them both to my room.
"What can we do? They seem like they are just so sure that this is the right thing." Amena sighed, tapping her glasses in impatince.
"What are our options in action is the question!" shrieked Mason. Me and Amena shushed him at the same time. He hunched back to the corner of the bed, whispering his sorry. I reached into my bag for a notebook to write down what we could do when instead I felt the folder Ms. Anastee gave me. I pulled it out and scanned it. There were weird markings all over it.
"What's that?" Amena perked. I shrugged dumbfoundedly, opening the folder. Slips of paper with that weird writing slipped through. I scanned between the slips. It was all handwritten.
"Ms. Anastee told me to give it to mom. I'll go hand it to her." I said, getting up.
I opened my parent's bedroom door slowly. My mom was reading a book, covered up in bed.
"Hey, mom."
"Hi, Amelys."
"One of my teachers told me to give this to you," I smiled, handing her the folder with the slips of paper. A smile grew on her face. "My home economics teacher, Ms. Anastee."
"Oh, Reigne. She remembered." she said fondly, looking through the slips of paper. I tilted my head in a dash of confusion. Remembered what? I asked myself. I sat at the edge of her bed, waiting for her to say something as she rembered the past.
"See, Reigne used to me my best friend, and we always passed these notes to each other in code. Right before we went our ways, she promised that after ten years, she would get this to me, same date we seperated." she mumbled. She was reading the papers, smiling and laughing here and there. Her smile faded when she hit the last note.
"I don't remember this one," she said, showing me. I shrugged, saying I didnt understand what it meant anyhow. She read it, whispering to herself.
After she read one side of that paper, she flipped it over to read the other side. A tear sliped down her cheek. She wiped it off and smiled.
"Okay," she said, not another word after.
"Good night, mom." I said, smiling to her. She didn't return it, but I know maybe she was caught up in that note. I left her in her silence of smiles.
