Chapter 18: Our Time is Here

Come on, come on, you know

It's your time to move it's my time to move

Come on, come on, let go

Leave it all behind, your past and mine.

“Does this look like it fits right?” I asked Aunt Maria as I walked out of the dressing area.

“That’s perfect! Practice walking. Walk to me.”

I walked towards with my best modeling walk and she clapped.

“Okay?” I asked.

She nodded, “Amazing. I think all of your clothes are done for the show now. Are you ready for tomorrow?”

“I hope so,” I nodded back. “What do you think Anna?”

She smiled, “I’m actually kind of jealous. You need to give me one of everything.”

“Deal,” I laughed. “You’ll be there right?”

“Obviously, my grandparents are dropping me off and I’m going home with your family.”

“How does it feel to be back by the way?” I asked her. She returned to her grandparents’ house last week after a long conversation at the sober house. I’m so proud of her for taking the step to go home.

She smiled slightly, “It’s an adjustment. My grandparents let me paint my bedroom and I’ve unpacking and rearranged all my things. It feels like a brand new start.”

“That’s amazing,” I smiled. “I’m really proud of you.”

“I’m proud of me too. That reminds me, I want to show you that song.”

“Come with me,” I said as I returned to the dressing area. I slipped out of the outfit and got back into the outfit I came here in. “If you have the song with you then you can come home with me and we can use our mini studio.”

“Yeah I have it in my bag,” she answered. “That sounds good.”

“Did you finish it?” I asked.

She replied, “I think so. I might need help on editing it though.”

“What’s it about again?”

“The direction of the song changed from my original idea but it’s about what I’ve been through since rehab… and before rehab I guess.”

“What do you mean?”

I heard her sigh, “I kept telling these lies. I created a completely different person and I forgot who I even was. I lied to everybody. I did the same thing in rehab too. I started changing at the end of rehab just before I got out. I changed even more in the sober living house after our accident. I need to figure out who I am.”

I stepped out of the dressing area with my purse in my hand.

“It sounds like a great song. I can’t wait to hear it.”
