Chapter Seven

The next morning Lucy woke with a feeling of dread washing over her. The thought of facing another day at school was just too much. Crawling out of bed she showered and got dressed, not bothering with dressing as she did the day before she wore a pair of black and white stripped shorts and a black V-neck shirt. She slipped on some flats, grabbed her school bag, and headed down stairs. Just as she reached the bottom, a knock at the front door got her attention. Fear of the last time she answered the door entered her body. Slowly she walk to the door and asked.

“Who’s there?”

“AH Lucy? Its Hayden from school. We met at Crystal Lake.”

Hayden? Why on earth would he be at my door and how does he even know where I live? She thought to herself.

Unlocking the door she opens it too reveal Hayden standing there in all his glory. His tight black shirt doing little to cover is muscled body. Realizing she was staring at his body. Lucy raises her eyes up to see that sexy half smile of his.

“Eh Hi.” She says

His smile widens as he replies “Hi.” Shuffling his feet and looking down at the ground, he continues to speak. “You’re probably wondering what I’m doing here huh? I’m sorry for coming over unannounced but it seemed the only way I could talk to you. You seem to run off on me a lot.”

A slight blush appears on Lucy face at his comment.

“Yeah sorry about that. I have been having a bad few days. Haven’t really been in the talking mood”

A dark look crosses Hayden’s face and Lucy could see the muscles in his jaw tensing. Thinking she has made him angry and not really wanting to stick around to be abused by another male she starts backing away from him and back into her house.

Realizing he was scaring her Hayden forced a smile on his face

“I understand. You must be going through a lot what with that guy attacking you and everything.”

Seeing the stun look on her face he quickly continues to explain.

“I heard about it at school. I’m sorry that happened to you, I assure not all males are not like him”

Shocked at what he just said Lucy stutters a reply “Y.y..you don’t believe it’s made up?”

Tensing his jaw again, he answers sternly “No I don’t.”

A tear slips its way from Lucy’s eye, but before she could look away Hayden reaches up with his thumb and softly brushes the tear away.

“Shh don’t cry” He whispers “I promise you have nothing to be afraid of anymore”

Feeling stupid for crying in front of him Lucy tries to change the subject

“Is there a reason why you are here Hayden?”

Lowering his hand from her face, he steps back and clears his throat.

“Yeah I was wondering if you would like a ride to school with me today?”

Stunned by what he just asked, Lucy just stood there frozen.

“I mean I know we don’t really know each other very well but I was kind of hoping that could change. You know we could get to know each other. If you wanted to that, is?"  He says rambling, a blush creeping up his neck to his cheeks.

Realizing she still has not answered him Lucy takes a deep breath to help clear her head and some of the shock off.

“Ah Hayden that’s really nice of you but why would you want to get to know me? When there are plenty of other girls who are a lot better than me at our school.” Hayden opens his mouth to reply but Lucy cuts him off not finished with what she has to say” Plus with the way things are going at school for me right now it would be social suicide to be seen hanging around me. Plus it’s just not safe to be around me right now.” She finished saying softly
