Epilogue

One whole year,’ I thought as I lay in bed that morning.

Today was my one year anniversary – my death anniversary to be exact.

Images of my grief stricken parents flitted through my mind, and I winced. At times like these, I wished I couldn’t tune into my friends and parents.

Well, at least my friends would be fine. They knew that I was still there. For a second, I felt overwhelmed with guilt, but I quickly shook it off.

Everything was restored back to normal by now. Heaven and Hell were leading their own separate ways.

Lucifer.

I got out of bed, quickly, and went through my morning duties. It took me about fifteen minutes to get ready for the day.

I left my room, and waited in the living room for Cindy. I doubt even she could have slept in today.

A moment later, Cindy came into sight, looking just as groomed as me – which is to say, barely.

We looked at each other, as if asking if we were ready. We both nodded. I grabbed onto her hand, and we teleported to earth.

I dropped Cindy off at her own home, and I materialized in front of mine. This was something we both had to do alone.

I walked in. After a year, the place had gotten a bit more life, but it still wasn’t the same.

I walked into the kitchen, and as expected, found them sitting silently at the breakfast table.

They didn’t speak. It was dead silent.

I couldn’t directly interfere, but I could make my presence known.

I walked towards them, and placed my hand on both of theirs. The glanced at each other, shocked.

My mom burst into tears, and my insides clenched. I gently lifted their hands and guided it towards each other. My mom looked at my dad through her tears. For a frightening second, I thought they’d broken; but then, they clasped each other’s hand.

My mom let a small smile show on her lips, and my dad squeezed her hand. I smiled too.

“I love you guys,” I whispered, and even though they couldn’t hear me, I knew they knew it in their hearts.

I teleported out of there and met Cindy at the park.

“How’d it go?” She asked when she saw me.

“Good,” I replied, and asked her the same.

“Good,” she smiled at me.

“Where are they?” I asked Cindy finally.

“They’ll be here, don’t worry,’ she chortled.

Just as she said that, our three friends entered the park. I smiled at the sight of them, but my smile immediately turned into a frown when I saw a girl on Aaron’s hands.

I turned to Cindy, wondering how she was taking this, but to my surprise, her smile widened.

They couldn’t see us.

I smiled evilly when I decided I’d try out my new trick.

“Ready Cindy?” I asked.

She smiled and nodded vigorously.

I closed my eyes, grabbed Cindy’s hand, and started channeling my powers. Just as I’d expected, we started flickering. All four of their eyes snapped towards us, and their jaws dropped in surprise.

“Hey guys!” I said, and for the first time, they could actually hear us.

“We – I – You,” Aaron stuttered and we had to laugh.

“How can we see you?” Bryon asked, just as shocked.

“Magic!” Cindy replied and laughed.

The girl who was with Aaron looked slightly uncomfortable and scared.

Cindy noticed and decided to have some fun. “So…” she began, “who’s this?” She asked mischievously.

For a second, Bryon and Annabeth looked worried, but when I shot them a smile, they visibly relaxed. However, I couldn’t say the same for Aaron.

“Uh, Cindy… I thought I’d bring Pam along. I don’t know why… I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry!” Aaron said, looking like he was about to pee his pants.

Cindy laughed, and Aaron looked at her confused. “It’s fine!” She said, waving him off.

“Guys,” I interjected, “we can’t stay here too long. It’s against the rules.”

Annabeth’s face dropped. I went and gave her a tight hug. “Just stay safe.” I broke the hug, and looked at all of them.

“If I hear that any of you guys are being sent to Heaven or Hell, I will whoop you guys so hard, that you’re going to wish you didn’t see e!” I said threateningly, but in the end, a smile broke out on my face.

I hugged the others, and gave a small nod to Pam.

“Take care of him,” Cindy said to her with a hard voice. However, instead of cowering, Pam looked at Cindy dead in the eye.

“I’m not going to be letting him go anytime soon,” she replied.

Cindy smiled, and nodded, and Pam smiled back. Cindy too gave each of them a hug, but when it came to Aaron, she gave him a small peck on the lips.

He looked shocked, and looked at Pam nervously, but to our surprise, she only smiled in response.

Just as we finished out reunion, we started flickering, and disappeared. Our friends left the park.

“Come on, we’ve got to get going,” I said finally.

Just as I’d uttered those words, I caught sight of someone I thought I’d never see again.

He looked straight at me, as if daring me to make a move.

“What are you-?” Cindy asked but cut short when her eyes landed on Lucifer.

I wanted to so badly just walk over to him. I could have; I could have been like his mom. I could have fought for what I loved.

But sometimes, we have to let go of the things we love. Sometimes, we have to do what’s best for the greater good; even if that means sacrificing your own happiness.

His lips curled into a smile, when he realized that I wasn’t going to make a move.

And I smiled back.

We knew what this was, and we were willing to accept it.

He disappeared once again.

This was good-bye.
